On the pitch yesterday's match continued to expose the major flaws in this QPR team and they have been there for several seasons.
We lack any real leaders on the pitch.
Our central defenders lack any pace.
We don't have a goal scorer.
Off the pitch we are years behind Brentford, TF does a lot of talking about a new stadium whereas the Brentford owners have put their money where their mouth is and are actually building a new stadium.
It's the same with team development, Brentford have bought in players like Lasse Vibe, Chris Mepham, Harley Dean, Jota etc., and then developed them before selling for big profits. Even in their current squad they have players like Watkins, Maupay and Benrahma who have been bought cheaply in the last couple of seasons and are now worth millions. We wait for Spurs to discard members of their youth team and then hope that Spurs were wrong and we can turn them into a diamond. The difference is that Brentford are recruiting the majority of their young players with some League experience and then polishing them before selling.
It's enough of an issue when we have to compete with Chelsea and Fulham for young fans but when we are also falling behind Brentford it shows just how poorly the club is now managed.
We maybe should just go back to the drawing board Finishing around 18th in the championship and looking at the bottom 3 every season is as far as it’s going to go right now Brentford are a very well set up club and we should aim to be like them in the future

I agree but I think the only drawing board that TF wants to see is those with house plans on them. As a club we are now stuck in a rut and until we get some serious investment at best we will remain in that rut.
The Leeds win has masked what bad few months it has been McClaren has give it all we were unlucky in other games and he knew we’d turn the corner etc after the Leeds game Fact our defence has “ fragile handle with care “ written on it We have some class with Freeman and Luongo who both blow hot and cold,we have eze the so called next sterling He is not going to be,he is lazy and is a one trick pony in my opinion Joe Lumley gets a lot of stick, but he had a huge hole to fill after we sold our previous class keeper, the kid tries and has at times a pathetic excuse of defenders especially lynch 1 win so far this year, one of the worst teams in all the leagues on paper, relegation form. We need 2 more wins at least and in 2 months managed 1,this current crop of players are terrible if we’re honest, with a few exceptions, our loan players are the best players we have got apart from Freeman and luongo, wells has dried up but he runs and tries his hardest the whole 90 mins If you look at our squad of our own players,we have a average league one side at best,no parachute payment next season and the transfer embargo has hit us hard as others were able to strengthen Sod all this 45000 seat stadium crap and maybe build a side that plays attractive football and makes the fans have something to smile about on a Saturday This is not based on yesterday,I’ve been damn frustrated and annoyed for months now,we had a good spell and now were not but this championship is awful,it’s so poor this season
I have to agree with pretty much all of this which shows how alarming our long term predicament is!
Take Freeman and Luongo out of our team (good chance that could happen as our saleable assets) and we'll be Ipswich standard next season.
We won't be able to afford loans of the quality we've got this season.
I'm not concerned about the rest of this season (it's just a shame it's become a 'nothing' season when it promised much at Christmas) but I am genuinely concerned about next season.
If I was a betting man I'd be asking for the odds of us going down next season and putting a fair wedge on it.
Just surviving relegation this season If we do,I agree with northwest we will probably go down next season In some ways it may do us a favour if we just get it out the way But the league is so poor this season we will probably survive now Get rid of McClaren to start with and get a young manager in like Luton town had to start next season with
Not sure that changing managers again is the answer. We seem to end up about the same whether it’s a young upcoming manager, someone who loves the club or an experienced ex-England manager. The problem is that the way the club has been run previously has left us in a big hole financially. I agree that next season is looking like a big problem. Our team will be full of unproven kids and cheap buys from lower leagues or abroad. We have some promising kids but our scouting and our system is going to struggle to compete with clubs like Brentford and Preston who have been operating this way for years, let alone the clubs with far bigger budgets. It’s easy to criticise the owners for messing up the opportunities we had from the Premier League windfalls - and right to do so! But we need them to hang around because who else would keep putting their money in with pretty much no chance of a return?
As you say we are years behind the Preston and Brentford model of bringing through youth players or signing players from lower leagues that go from strength to strength and move on at big profits then are replaced by somebody well scouted and plucked from lower leagues again that is of equal quality. They repeat and repeat this process. The replacements coming in for them rarely fail.
At QPR pretty much every time we sign a player from lower leagues they are David Wheeler and Conor Washington standard.
For every Massimo Luongo we get 10 Ben Gladwins.
We need that number to switch around to become successful and sustainable.
I understand ghost mate But I don’t think McClaren is ideal for our situation He hasn’t give our youngsters like BOS and manning a chance to really prove themselves in the team Yes we are down to the bare bones once our loan players and best players go and fear the worst whatever division we’re in Luton town my mate suppports and they play some fantastic football with what they have and they are youngsters and unproven players They will do well in the championship next season
Having endured the full 90 on video here are a few points from me:
The team was as predicted so no surprises, but that equally meant Brentford could plan accordingly. Their man-marking in the first half frustrated our attempts and meant we struggled with attacks. [That also brings into question why McClaren did not make earlier substitutions and why he did not leave Freeman on the wing so BOS could go through the middle...]
Let's face it, Brentford were the better side. Their one-touch play was far better than ours and, yet again, we came up against a side that dominated the high balls into midfield. Until we have players able to use such balls we should minimise such balls. Of course it did not help that Cousins & Luongo in midfield had an 'off day' together...
That was never a penalty. Having watched it in both normal play and slow play I remain convinced Hall was fouled - not him fouling. Sadly the subsequent penalty goal was the turning point.
Lumley played well. He may have had 3 goals scored against him but I could see no real error on his behalf.
Other players who can hold their head up have already been mentioned by others - Wszolek and Leistner; but I would also include Wells in there for his tracking back of players, often the whole length of the pitch and his goalmouth clearance of a certain goal. Wells ploughed a very lonely furrow up front and that lack of support was a major factor in our lack of goals. It was easy for Brentford to put two players (at least) on him at all times.
Compare Wells' work-rate with that of Eze, who shied away from tackles, failed to prevent passes by positioning himself better, and was seldom prepared to take on their defence. Can we really afford the luxury of a player like Eze (even with his undoubted spells of magic)? It is like playing with one less player.
Hemed is still off pace, which is disappointing, but why is Hall still slower than I remember? Grant Hall has had longer to get back to match fitness but is being caught out on races for through balls.
I have said this before, but that does not make it any less true: Furlong is not closing down players to prevent crosses. Worse than that, he is now not even tracking players back when our opponents break. f you do not give others a chance to get organised against an attack then you must risk the consequences. For me, Furlong was at least partially at fault for goals 1 & 2. Must do better!
You are a brave man once again kingfisher but at least you are able to glean some invaluable observations for the rest of us.
Regarding the penalty we put ourselves in a position where our defence was all over the place and so in trying to make up lost ground Hall put himself in an awkward position. Was it a foul? Perhaps not but better shape at the back and better closing down in midfield wouldn't have got us in that position to concede a foul.
Eze is going through a rough spell but as a club need to keep behind him as he is a talented lad but part if that is he also needs to be used sensibly. Brentford are a far better footballing team than us so Saturday was probably a day to play Smith and another up front and play physical and long. There was no point trying to go toe to toe with them as the result was inevitable. It was not a game for Eze.
Hall is having a strange spell because he either looks fantastic or completely off the pace. There is no middle ground at the moment. He was great against Leeds doing everything right and reading the game superbly, then against Brentford he looked like a carthorse, being out run and out thought.
I was a fan of Furlong. I felt he was mistreated after being flung into the team 4 years ago against Sanchez and Bolasie in their pomp then being sent out on loan for a few years. However, since his return from injury this season he just doesn't seem quite the same player. Stats can sometimes throw up the odd anomaly but the fact we have lost 29% of games with Rangel but more than double with Furlong (60%) must prove something. He looks far more comfortable at centre half and I feel that is where his future should lie.
