A good win but Wednesday we’re at the airport check in before the game even started Next season we need to establish who the hell is going to take our penalties,we’ve missed so many this season We haven’t done the double over Wednesday for a few years but we’ve beaten them 3 times before in end of season games The big we’re going down talk which even I thought and we end up 11 points clear in the end The bottom 3 we’re terrible this season and that was a big part why so many poor teams still stayed up John Eustace done a good job I thought and he deserves some credit Next season is going to be a journey into the unknown but we will miss it for a few months now, won’t we
B*gger! By mistake I saw the score on FB!! I knew it was going to be hard to ignore all media references to the game, but only 2 hours afterwards....
OK, few questions and comments:
stoatey mentioned that Ryan Manning was overrun, but who was meant to be protecting him - Eze? BOS? Shodipo? Did they do their job?
Three penalties and two misses in a single game seems weird! Have to ask why Manning is not taking ours? @singlespeed is correct to state that whoever takes over must initiate decent penalty-taking practises!
Was this a hard-fought game or just an end of season stroll?

QPR for once did the fantastic in extra time!
Now who went out on a limb and predicted 1-2....
Shodipo was out wide left today and did an ok job getting up and down the line. Manning is good going forward but seems to lack the defensive skills of Bidwell because it's not his natural position. Sheffeild Wednesday didn't do a lot but they had done their homework and knew that Manning and Shodipo are not a natural combination on the left hand side.
I would have hoped that after the debacle of Wells penalty taking that Eustace would have given the job to Manning but maybe he just left it to whoever was confident enough. The way Eze took our penalty today was totally lacksidasical and there was no conviction. It was a couple of steps and then hit to Westwoods left.. Westwood is one of the best goalies in this league and whilst Eze's penalty was a bit soft it was a good save. Westwood was on top form today and was unlucky to be on the losing team.
Watching the game it was more like a friendly at times and was a typical end of season match. It was good to win and there were some promising performances but no more than that.
Mat Smith's goal was an absolute corker and credit has to be given to Leistner who surged forward and laid the ball off to Mass down our left who then put a peach of a cross in for Smith to hit on the volley with his left foot.. Great finish to the season and I'm delighted for Matt Smith who was overlooked by McClaren. Smith's goal scoring record this season is a goal every 164 minutes (effectively a goal every 1.8 games).
Eze may have been in a spot of hot water if we hadn't gone on to win that game, Manning had the ball straight after the penalty was awarded and Eze effectively snatched it off him/pressured him in to handing it over. He had to score after that, and instead did some stupid sturrering run-up and hit it at a very saveable height. However that was almost forgotten by Smith sticking in a superb volley right at the end!
One interesting note from afterwards, Matt Smith emerged from the stadium quite a while after the team coach had left chatting with Steve Bruce. Could Wednesday have seen enough in him to try and get him on their books for next season or am I reading too much in to this?
We need to keep smith He’s scored some important goals Hard to man mark with his physical presence Not the most skilful but id like him to stay on Manning should of taken the penalty end of,he scored a few for Rotherham
I was very happy for Matt Smith yesterday. I'm not his biggest fan due to the way we tend to play when he is on the pitch but he has a rough deal sometimes getting thrown on when we are losing all the time. So as the End of Season Stats show he had gone 15 appearances without being on the winning side prior to yesterday; so to finally taste victory after nearly 5 months and to score such a superb last minute winner himself it must have been a great day for him!
He'll be here next season unless somebody buys him off us as he is still under contract.

I thought we played some nice stuff against Wednesday Eze looked lively for a change and leistner looked right up for it too Maybe Wednesday taking the foot of the gas made us look better But we looked more of a unit and that’s important for the youngsters next season
Interestingly, his first league goal this season wasn't until January.
An impressive second half of the season from him really. His personal record was better than a goal every other game when you add up his minutes played.
Wells got 9 but played almost 3 times as many minutes this season as Smith.
Hemed got 7 (2 were penalties - what a waste of money). Freeman was level with Smith on 8.
Having nobody hitting double figures speaks volumes. We really need a striker to get north of 15 if we are to improve as a club. Since we came down to this level and Austin left we simply don't score enough goals. We haven't got a striker who is so good you can't leave him out. Hopefully Warburton can find a gem.
That's a big ask. I don't expect us to suddenly find a 15 goal striker for virtually no money. Smith will be a key player next season. Let's hope the likes of Smyth, Oteh and BOS make the grade too. Perhaps also Eze and Chair or even Wheeler.
It is a big ask and I don't expect us to manage it either but until we can get a striker who can hit that mark I don't see us ever troubling the top half. 15 goals is technically only 1 in 3 across the season so is possible but would make such a big difference.
There is no denying we have problems at the back but we have the chance to resolve that with Lynch, Hall and Bidwell all set to leave. If we can recruit correctly the opportunity is there to improve the squad at both ends of the pitch.
Having seen the full 90 mins on video (well 94 mins) I feel that was a positive end to a poor season. Despite some very dubious penalties awarded to Wednesday, and Eze's complete hash of our deserved penalty, this was a game that QPR were determined to win. OK Hall coming on near the end was a defensive move, but it did not really blunt the attack as that was coming from a variety of players - hence why Luongo was on hand to make a great cross to Matt Smith for a great winning volley.
Positives: We won; Eze played a lot better than normal in getting involved; the team worked well as a unit and held their 4-4-2 formation well against Wednesday's attack; and full credit to Eustace for selecting the right team to play and the right tactics. Negatives: Walker looked overwhelmed, so I am not sure if he will make it; and Shodipo needs to get on the BOS-weight gain course fast to become stronger in challenges
