Not for me either. Why do we need him? We have Oteh and Walker behind Hugill and Mlakar.
We also know he was on big money last year so unless Burnley are that desperate to get rid of him they are going to pay more of his wages why would we burden ourselves again for a 3rd choice striker?
Wells doesn't score many goals and if its true that he is on £35k/week then it doesnt make any financial sense either.
I would much rather use some of the money that the club has received from our transfers of Freeman, Luongo, Smith and Furlong to invest in a young player like McKenna who is captain material and could make us even more money down the line.
The extortionate wages we have to pay to Wells is just a waste to the club.
Even if he is negotiating a pay off with Burnley so we can pay low wages (like Cameron did with Stoke) I still don't see how we need him. If Hugill stays fit Mlakar will find it hard to get game time, never mind Wells.
He went downhill badly last season and by the end was hardly breaking into a sweat. The way he downed tools when the going gets tough does not bode well, we don't want that rubbing off on what looks like a very determined squad right now.
12 months ago he looked a good signing but not now. I went off him massively.
Maybe Burnley are going to subside his wages but to me whatever we are paying him and Hughill it's wasted money. They are both seasoned Premier League players who are on big wages and it becomes an even bigger waste of money if one of them just sits warming the bench.
Maybe one or both of them will have an exceptional season and score loads of goals but if it hasn't happened in the past I doubt it's going to happen now.
Agree @singlespeed that Warburton getting more out of him is the hope with this one. I'm not convinced he will get much game time if Hugill stays fit. Perhaps he will play off the striker or out wide?
Lots of the media are suggesting that Birmingham are preparing a £6m bid in January.
Not sure what sort of loan deal we have with Burnley or whether there is any truth in whats being reported but if its true then it would seem to be a no brainer that Burnley would accept.
