Well here we are into the second game in only a few days and it will carry on like this until the end of the year - two games a week.... Clubs with a limited budget and a lack of depth in the squad will struggle as injuries and suspensions take their toll. Already we can see a breakaway at both ends of the league, with the sides relegated from the PL last season looking well-positioned to bounce right back (although what Stoke is doing there too is beyond me). At the bottom we have Wycombe and Wednesday, for separate reason, struggling, but luckily they have Rooney County propping them up! Coventry, which I thought would do better too, are only one point off the bottom three. In between those at the bottom and top, fighting it out, are 13 clubs in a band of 7 points. Probably all are still repeating the mantra 'We can make the Play Offs' but sadly for them there are only 4 slots - not 13!
What the league points do show us though is that it would only take a mini-run of wins or defeats for a club in the middle to dramatically change its middling status. That is what should be driving those clubs forward! So onto a specific middling club - QPR. We did OK against Bournmouth and Watford, whose style of play probably favoured ours, but we still seem to fail when it comes to physical sides, especially those that like to break fast. Rotherham sit immediately below us on 12 points and with a similar goal difference. So a draw seems the logical choice and perhaps Rotherham will travel down with that in mind. If either side wants to improve though this season then these are the games they must win....
I have given up trying to guess which players Warburton will select and gone for my personal choice:
Dieng [proven he is Championship level]
Kakay Dickie Barbet Hamalainen [Kakay & Hamalainen for Kane & Wallace is a no brainer for me; and hoping Dickie is fit]
Adomah Ball Carroll Willock [BOS & Cameron should be rested, so that brings in Uncle Albert and Willock to widen the play]
Chair Dykes
