As you have both pointed out with a reduction in wages and losing key players we are holding our own and it looks like we will improve on last years league position, he has played some decent football since he has been here and after sacking so many managers its nice to actually have some consistency. I think I was still (just) in the keep him bracket pre Christmas and I'm glad we did and hope we, as fans, and the senior management rememebr what has happened in this year next time we have a major drop in results. 
 

I can not imagine many would not want him next year although I'm looking forward to hearing Stoatey's thoughts.

I think you all know where my feelings lie. I'm a tad amazed there is any conversation to be had.

Warburton has achieved miracles, frankly. He has certainly achieved the remit he was brought he for. Tick all the boxes. All.
When he came to the club he had to slash the wage budget by dismantling a squad of high earners; rebuild from the bottom up on a relative shoestring; bring in hungry young players and develop from our youth ranks into better players and saleable assets; play more attractive football; and keep us up in the Championship. All of this he achieved to a greater or lesser extent last season. Frankly a near-miracle. We were third favourites to be relegated; we finished comfortably mid-table.

Then he had to rebuild a second time. Eze sold; Amos out injured for the season; Manning offski; BoS (apparently our best player) left, walking at Christmas after underperforming all season. As I said in a previous thread. It’s been death by a thousand cuts. On paper, we are a bottom 3 club. On the pitch, largely because of Warburton, we are not.

Not all but the majority of players have improved under Warburton - Chair, Dieng, Amos (until his injury), Kakay, etc. Even accident-waiting-to-happen Barbet is now solid and reliable.

Sure, some of the transfers have not worked out, but look at the limited finances he had to work with, and for every Dykes (who btw had a great game against Millwall) or Bonne I'll cite you Dickie or Willock. Div 1 Hull reject Jordi de Wijs is a proper player under Warbs! I think his transfer record - especially given the financial constraints - is very favourable. Especially when you compare us to other Championship clubs - Preston buying up half-a-dozen players at Christmas and in freefall right now, Nottm Forest with their squad of 1000+ and constantly underachieving. Even Rotherham, Wycombe, Luton and Coventry have got more new players in than us.

Some people cite tactical deficiencies but since we, sorry Warburton, switched to a back three we have been by-and-large excellent.

And now we are on course for our highest finish for many seasons (touch wood). Optimism! Actual optimism. When was the last time? Zamoraaaaaaaaaaaaaa?
Team spirit and comradery are so good that loanees Johansen, Field and de Wijs want to stay next season permanently (though there are of course real salary issues to content with to get Johansen even if Foolham want to let him go).

He is not perfect of course (only my missus is, apparently). But he is the best we have had for a long time and easily the best we can hope for given the multiple constraints the club has had to and still has to contend under. I would not be surprised if there are already other Championship clubs casting an envious eye in our direction to nab Warbs.
I can't see how we can afford to lose him - I think if we did there would be a lot of incredulous laughter from our rivals and other Championship clubs.
Ultimately though I don't think we will have to make the decision about whether he stays or not, it will be his decision to make.

Ultimately it's about expectations and ambition.

We may not get a third chapter > he's being linked with the England U21 job.

He has played down the rumours.

Mr W has committed himself (for now at least) to QPR, dismissing talk of him getting the U21s job. If I was him, with past unfulfilled posts, I would be looking to prove a point at QPR by bringing them forward. That means delivering a Top Ten place this season and Play Offs next season I would have thought. Then I can see us losing him...
