Bristol City v QPR 30DEC21 1 - 2 FT 7th/38pts

The game wasn't great and we started in typically slow fashion. It was no surprise that BC targeted our right hand side because they must have been watching replays of the Bournemouth game.

After conceding the goal we looked very rocky and if it wasn't for Dieng and some poor finishing things could of got worse. Defensively I thought Dunne looked a bit clumsy and could have conceded a penalty. Dickie seemed asleep at times and I think his mind was elsewhere. Amos seemed to be putting himself around a bit and I thought he got into some good positions but he did run out of steam. Sam Field looked very tired in the first half and I wonder if Dozzell was available whether he would have played. Like Dickie I thought Field was poor at controlling the ball and maybe they were feeling the effects of 2 quick games after 3 weeks off.

I couldn't see clearly whether it was a penalty but if the ref gives it then you take it. I wasn't confident that Charlie was going to score but thankfully the goalie went the wrong way and we could go in all square.

The BC sending off seemed to surprise us all because it just seemed like 2 players tussling for the ball, what we didn't realise was that King had been booked previously. For a while you would have thought QPR had gone down to 10 men because it seemed to inspire BC and put us on the back foot. However, as the game wore on they seemed to get more tired and we had more control. We seemed to have plenty of chances but without really causing the goalie too much of a problem. The fans were tremendous and don't always get what they deserve but that last gasp header from Barbet was very welcome and sent all of us home happy.

Pleased you made the trip northwards to see the match stoatey ! Have to agree with your observations. Dickie and Dunne were at sixes n' sevens, whilst Field and Johansen faded away and Wallace was marked out of the game. Luckily Amos, Dieng, Adomah and Barbet were up for it! I do suspect we are seeing post-COVID lethargy as there were too many mistakes for it to be anything else. Poor passing, especially at the beginning, allowed BC to come back into the game many times. I was torn between making Adomah or Barbet my MotM because both showed set examples for the rest. (If only Wallace could take on players marking him and win most encounters he would be a bigger problem for oppositions....)
