should be rules that these elite clubs cant stockpile
Matt Smith eh? what was that all about OMG
even worse remember Jack Clarke? i saw his debut for us think he came off the bench and i shouted give it to clarke (as he had acres on the wing) so the ball came to him and clarke tried to control it but couldnt and it went under his foot for a throw in
surely there is a youngster somwhere that cant get on Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, man city or man utds bench that could have cemented our left wing back berth and made it his own
There should be, but this highlights a major issue in the English game where bigger clubs stockpile young players. They have no use for them other than to stop them being at other clubs. The kids also earn so much that clubs often can't afford to loan them.
I read that Birmingham once paid £1 million just to have a lad on loan for the season from a Premier League club.
I read that a lad who lived in a 6 bedroom detached house, age 19, would not go on loan to 'place x' because he wasn't prepared to 'slum it' in the area the proposed club was in.
They also, quite frequently, aren't as good as they think they are. Look at little Matt Smith from Man City. He's flopped at QPR, Charlton and Hull and is now on loan at MK Dons. Just because these lads are on the books at a club like Man City it can often be misleading.
That's why I admire somebody like Luke Amos. He was at Tottenham his whole life, but he wants to play. So he moved on rather than just earning money to make the odd appearance in the EFL Cup or Europa League.
I think the truth is that PL clubs can afford to stockpile young potential and equally afford to let most eventually go. The EFL sides are forced to follow the same process on a much smaller (and therefore riskier) basis.
