I've looked into this myself before my last purchase and it just works out a lot more expensive.

You have to watch out for milage limits - if you go over the agreed amount you pay a lot more per mile.

Look out for damage clauses. They can be quite strict. My brother in law once had to pay extra at the end of the lease for a tiny mark on the alloy wheel.

Leases are good if you like a new car every 3-4 years, but in my calculations worked out almost 50% more expensive than just buying the car.

Thanks NW, yes this is the sort of thing I don't like, the idea that the car has to be perfect three years after you buy it is nonsense especially given that you're paying over the odds

The problem is I don't know what kind of car to buy out right...not sure a petrol car is a good idea and electric cars are so expensive and who knows exactly where that market is going

We’ve sold quite a few at our garage
The Ford mach e is one of our best selling cars and it’s amazing how it is because it’s so bloody expensive
It’s really nice car but if you want a new battery it can be up to £5000 to replace as I found out when we replaced one under warranty and they are massive too in size
Normal car batteries only about a £100 or so in contrast

I want to get an idea of whether there are different types of leasing options and if there is room for negotiation. Does a company like Ford have just one standard leasing arrangement that's set in stone or can a buyer choose from different options.

I'm especially interested in damage clauses as NW mentioned, how precise are these clauses?

but you can you can also get other makes of used cars on a deal called PCP
Look it up online
PCP is personal contract purchase and type of personal car leasing on any make of car
very flexible with options to even buy if you wanted based on valuations after leasing period
most good salesmen would explain how it works

singlespeed is quite correct on the merits of PCP jimjams . We took that route solely to get a further discount on the new car and then paid it all off. Sounds weird but taking finance actually works out less expensive that offering a suitcase of dosh!

btw I always assumed Single would be working in a specialist bicycle shop for some reason....

I had the same a few years ago. The dealer was obviously incentivised to get people to take finance so they offered a discount on the car if you take the finance.

cars is more my game but i dont drive due to my epilepsy and im out the workshop now and in the office now because of that,
i mess around with bikes and have projects but ill be honest bikes aint my speciality at all
i own a brompton 2 speed and carerra mountain bike only now
Djing is the only skill i can still do from back in the day when it used to be proper vinyl DJs not the digital boys that twiddle buttons these days
