Not the afternoon at HQ I was looking for. The first Cardiff goal looked a foul to me from Ellerslie Road. As soon as that’s not given we’re in trouble. Cardiff’s 2 subs changed the game. They pinned us back and we couldn’t play out any more. And with no centre forward we couldn’t play it long either. I know we were short of options but I was surprised that MW took so long to make a change. Promotion push is over in my eyes.
All my thoughts too! Once the ref dismissed the obvious foul, missed by him and linesman below, it all went wrong. For once the subs were not used early enough. I know we had no strikers to bring on, but Adomah for Wallace & Amos for Willock was far too late. We let that game slip away to a side that is a full season behind us in development.
In the first half we had plenty of movement but then in the second half everything lacked energy. I expected Warburton to make some early changes and freshen things up but nothing.
Even when he's fit Wallace struggles to get past 60 minutes before he hits the wall and Odubajo offered very little by way of getting down the right flank. It seemed obvious to me that both wing backs needed replacing to freshen things up but Warburton was as devoid of ideas but so were the players on the pitch.
I can fully understand why Hendrick and Gray were shipped out of their respective Premiership clubs because they're not very good.
We stay 5th but could drop as low as 7th by Tuesday night depending on results as Boro face Sheffield United and Luton also play. We've then all played 35 games.
In the league it's now just 1 win in 7 and only 2 in 9 for QPR. Include the club and it's 2 wins from 10.
On the form table for the last 6 games we are now down in 21st
As decent as some of our play was against Cardiff in the first 65 minutes we still only had 3 shots on target in the match... and without a defensive error we don't score
We've only scored 4 in the last 6 league games
Marshall has lost 4 appearances in a row
We are now as close to 12th as 2nd - 6 points in each direction
Andre Gray scored his first home goal and first goal not wearing the black away kit
With Lee Wallace being on the losing side he also loses his place at the top of the player 'points per game' stats. Luke Amos takes over as the player with the most points per appearance but nobody is now above 2 points per game.

Maybe i take your point about Gray but i felt he looked good yesterday should have scored a 2nd but thought he looked good
as for Hendrick i think hes a good player just very similar to what we already have in Stefan Johansen (who for me hasnt looked half as good as he did last season)

*stat excludes Sanderson and Kelman who have only played 4 games between them.
Good to see that 3 of our loan signings from Premiership clubs are making such an impression. I suspect if it wasn't for his stupidity we could have had all 4 down there.
Personally think the team has looked a bit disjointed since chair has been back in the team How many games have we won since he returned from the Africa nations

I am calm enough now to comment upon the game, even if I feel less inclined to attend in future...
Warburton agreed with you stoatey in his post-match interview that the second half performance was way below par, and he is right! But that beggars the question as to why he did not make the first two substitutions far earlier. It was obvious to all of us there that Wallace was making no headway down the left, and in fact Cardiff focused upon closing down Odubajo on the right to stifle both wings. Meanwhile Willock was being marginalised by tight marking, so a change made sense and the right subs were made. In the past Warburton has made astute substitutions early, and that was what was needed immediately after Cardiff's double sub at 56 minutes. Adomah on the right was more threatening and so was Odubajo when he switched to the left (imho his best side), but that did not happen until the 81st minute! Meanwhile, the two Cardiff subs regenerated a mediocre line-up. OK, their first goal looked to everyone watching to be preceded by a clear foul on Dickie, but that was all the stimulus Cardiff needed; and their second goal from the free kick just outside the box was superb. We deserved to not win! I appreciate that we are effectively playing with no striker these days, but the chance to look for one in January was rejected by Mark Warburton and I hope it does not come back to haunt him!
Now we sit in 5th, with the teams in 6th, 7th & 8th position all capable of using their game in hand to leapfrog us. We had the chance to be clinical and forceful to protect our Play-off position, but instead I do feel we are now going to be relying on other teams to fail more than we fail....

I agree with your comments kingfisher. The foul on Dickie looked obvious but as is typical of this league the officials seemed to be totally useless. I'm sure we had that referee in one of our other games recently and he was poor then. I shall have to have a look and see what game it was. What really frustrated me (and Warburton from his after game comments) was the lack of intensity. The guy Hendrick seems to want to pass backwards, sideways but rarely forwards and I'm not sure he knows where the opponents penalty box is located because he rarely goes over the half way line. A really frustrating match.
