This is massively from leftfield but Mark Warburton has been announced as first team coach at West Ham.
Very random. I thought he was guaranteed to just walk into another Championship job but maybe he doesn't fancy it. An odd one.
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mark Warburton as a first-team assistant coach.
The former Brentford, Rangers, Nottingham Forest and Queens Park Rangers manager has managed nearly 350 matches, winning two promotions and a succession of individual awards, and will add experience and knowhow to David Moyes’ backroom staff.
I imagine John Eustace isn't best pleased! And it's a bit of a concern that 2 championship managers who did good jobs (Warburton and Critchley) have chosen coaching in the top flight over managing in the second tier. Is it money? Too demanding? A widening gap?
At this stage in his career I would imagine being a coach to a Premier league club has to be a lot easier than managing a team in the Championship. In addition I'd think that the pay is better.
It's likely that with Warburton knowing the wage details of our players and the financial position of QPR that we can now expect some bids for the likes of Willock, Dickie or Chair.

Very true, hadn't thought of that
If West Ham wanted to make and approach the wages they would offer would dwarf what we would offer anyway and the agents know their wages, I doubt it would make any difference with Warbs there. there.
I think Warburton being there does make a difference in terms of he'll be able to sit with Moyes and say "Willock is outstanding, well worth x amount" and it could influence West Ham if they had any doubts before. It will help sway their decision having Warburton there in my view. If they are even interested of course.
I agree with northwesthoop. With Premier League money, why wouldn’t they take a punt on Willock or Chair or Dickie or Dieng if Warburton thinks that they are good enough. As fans we don’t want to lose them. If they do go we just have to make sure that we get a good fee and hopefully a replacement before the window closes.
Agreed a deal for Areola so won’t go for Dieng (at least in this window). Think they would be able to attract better players than Chair and Willock in the attacking areas; neither better than Bowen, Fornals or Benrahma. Dickie unlikely to go there too with Aguerd having just signed, he’d be fourth choice behind Dawson 🤷♂️
It was a surprise to me that Mark Warburton opted to become an assistant at West Ham, rather than manage another Championship side. I got the impression from my interview with him that he was still ambitious (despite having been there and got the 'T-shirt' as a currency trader), and I would have expected another spell as manager in the Championship could well lead to a PL offer. Going as, I assume, #2 at West Ham is still not going to be seen as being the decision-maker and thus getting the kudos. I also feel that West Ham have had ample time to get beyond their desire to get Chair or Willock on the cheap prior to his arrival. Having failed to grasp the nettle before, Warburton's arrival will make no difference. He is a good, possibly very good, coach; and I do wish him well.
i actually dont think West Ham would be that interested in any of the top players we have.
Dieng : Maybe cant think of who they have in goal at the minute never mind the reserve keeper Dickie : think he went backwards after the great start to season and far too slow for premier league Chair : too small and not as skillful as others at west ham (true story) Willock : possible but again in my opinion better at west ham already

I tend to agree with you on all those players @judethespringbok. The only other possible is Sinclair Armstrong, where they may decide to take a punt.....
Some of us called this situation when Warburton left.
Like you say, I think it will be sad if he goes and also quite scary…look at Barnsley…playoffs last year and relegated this year. I don’t think I’ve ever been truly worried about getting relegated during MWs tenure…this is why those who want a change need to be careful what they wish for.
Just when I thought we had stopped shooting ourselves in the foot every year, we shoot ourselves in the head.
Whether we would be doing any better by keeping Warburton is just conjecture. Warburton was given millions after the sale of Eze and bought players like Kelly, Bonne, Kelman etc., and seemed loathe to give our youngsters the first team experience they needed.
Like him or hate him but Warburton's replacement, Mick Beale had this lot playing at a level we can now only dream of. What he managed to achieve in his short period coaching this lot now appears miraculous.
It's no good reflecting on what might have happened because
There was a big down tools when Beale left Not a injury crisis in my opinion Balogun refusing to play when he left was the rumour Our best player willock hasn’t scored since Beale left Our players lost form all of a sudden It’s some coincidence don’t you think Beale had got into their heads and once rumours got around other clubs were sniffing like wolves,we then started losing games just before he left for Glasgow We certainly wouldn’t be staring at league one if he stayed
