One of those days for sure. One where nothing you do produces anything positive. I got the feeling we could have played another hour and still not scored - despite the efforts. The injuries did not help and neither did the gifted early goal, but this was a poor team performance that goes against the current quality shown. Johansen was rightly replaced by a livelier and more effective Amos; Dickie covered JCS' injury OK; but Richards and Armstrong offered little when they came on; and Dykes had the penalty on target but close enough for Ruddy to save. We are lucky to still be 2nd, although the others playing tomorrow will surely push us downwards. No whisky tonight!
But if Dykes scores the penalty we could have perhaps had a big last 10 minutes and got something. Missing that really killed any hope we may have had.
Also how Hannibal was not sent off is farcical. That would have given us 40 minutes against 10 men.
Ruddy had nothing to do apart from saving the pen. All we did was pass it around in front of their defence for most of the second half.
A bit worrying perhaps that we keep having these matches, like Luton, where nobody turns up and we deservedly lose.
The biggest worry tonight was just how much possession we had without ever looking a threat. The Birmingham midfield and defence seemed happy to let us have the ball because we lacked any creative ideas in the final third.

Beale mentioned Luton after the game and seemed concerned that we are so off the pace in some of these games.
I think this was another prime example of how much of a difference Willock makes. Without him we struggle to pick teams off when they play like Birmingham did.
Food for thought. Certainly a match that illustrates we have a lot to do to challenge at the top over the course of the season because we can thrown in these below par performances too frequently as it stands.

Willock does make a huge difference when he plays but tonight I thought we didn't have any idea how to combat the Birmingham 5 man midfield who out fought Tim, Field, Roberts and Johansen in the first half.
In particular, Chong, Bielik and Hannibal Mejbri were really physical and imposed themselves on the game. I admit the ref allowed them to get away with some naughty tackles but they realised that we were intimidated by their tactics. Roberts only lasted 25 minutes before getting another injury but I find him frustrating because he does so little to influence the game.

Yes I can't take to him at all. He looked fantastic in his first 2 sub appearances but ever since just looks off the pace and lethargic to me. There is obviously potential there but we only get to see it in fits and starts.
The whole team though were below par tonight, not just him. I know Richards came into a bad situation but he looked particularly uncomfortable and was almost falling over his own feet. Trying too hard perhaps.
Norwich looks an ominous trip right now unless we really step it up a few gears from tonight.
