Hoops & Dreams World Cup 2022 Prediction Cup
Welcome to the Hoops & Dreams World Cup 2022 Prediction Cup! This is a companion to our QPR Prediction League and the winner will get 10 bonus points they can choose to have in either Phase 2 or Phase 3. It won't take you more than a few minutes to submit your entries once you have read the rules.
For regular players this will work the same as all previous cups we have had on the forum but now each match has full predictions, whereas in the past there were less predictions for each match from 1 to 4. This is to increase scoring opportunities.
There are 5 rounds to make it through and if your predictions aren't good enough you will be out!
Just make sure you can commit to playing in all of the 5 possible rounds in this Cup should you make it that far as Round 2 onwards are head to head clashes. You can see the deadlines for each round in advance below, should you make it through. The predictions will be frequent and within a week of the previous rounds.
The format of our World Cup Prediction Cup will be as follows:
Round 1: Everybody enters with just the top 16 scorers overall going through to Round 2.
Round 2/Last 16: The 16 remaining players face off into 8 head to head ties and the winner from each tie goes through (position 1 plays 16, 2 plays 15, 3 plays 14 and so on)
Round 3/Quarter Finals: 8 players in 4 head to head ties
Round 4/Semi Finals: 4 players drawn into 2 matches
Round 5/Final - final of the remaining 2 players
The Scoring and Deadlines
Each round involves predictions on 4 matches. To increase the scoring chances each match will now have full predictions.
Round 1 will be based on 4 first round matches - deadline 20 November - before the first match
Round 2 will also be based on 4 first round matches - deadline 27 November
The Quarter Finals will be based on 4 last 16 matches - deadline 03 December
The Semi Finals will be based on the 4 Quarter Finals - deadline 09 December
Our Final will be based the 2 semi finals and 2 league matches taking place at that time - deadline 13 December
Remember, if you make it through the subsequent rounds will come thick and fast, so only enter if you are going to keep checking in!
Here is how Round 1 will score:
When predicting a scoreline you get 6 points for the correct score, 3 points for a correct result.
When predicting a first scorer this is worth 6 points, with 1 back up point if they don't score first but score at any time.
A first goal time is chosen from 6 time brackets with 3 points awarded if you are correct. Predicting the team who will score first is worth 1 additional point.
As a form of goal difference you also need to predict how many bookings will occur in all 4 games as a total in each round. The more wrong you are, the more points added to your goal difference. The aim is to be as close as possible... the lower your goal difference the better. This will be used to separate any joint scores and will carry over throughout the competition.
If things are still level I count the amount of exact scores, first goal scorers and highest score in a single match so these are used as further deciders.
That is it, simple to play, hard to be correct! 64 points is the maximum score in Round 1.
