Yes stoatey , it was awful defending for their goal. In particular I'd love to know what Kakay was doing, absolutely nowhere near Manning giving him the easy task for the ball inside. Then after that it was far too easy for their player to take a touch and slot it home.
We should have taken our own chances. The game was over if we scored a second. We didn't and paid the price. Again.
When you consider how we've been playing and then look to the future the big challenge for Critchley is that to just stand still he will have to replace the 4 Premiership loanees that played today. It doesnt help that we have agreed to pay money for the 5th loanee who can't even get in the squad.
Replacing the loanees is only the first step because to progress he then needs to offload our duffers and add more quality into the squad that will then create competition for places which we currently don't have.
A very frustrating afternoon. Tactics were good. The high press worked well and we created enough chances to win the game easily. If Lowe had taken either of the golden chances in the second half we would win the game. That’s what cost us the game.
What doesn't help this team is their inability to hold onto a clean sheet. The loss of Balogun has been a huge miss because in his 9 games this season we kept 5 clean sheets. His partnerships with both Dunne and JCS proved to be quite solid.
The issue for me is the inclusion of Rob Dickie who IMO is a major weak link. In his 21 games we have managed just 2 clean sheets.
Overall we have managed just 7 clean sheets (2 at home and 5 away) and since Balogun's injury at the start of November we have managed just 2.

I would only add that Kay adopting a 'I can occupy empty space if you would like to cross Sir' position did not help the CBs either! You MUST close down or nullify ball-players on the wing!! Critchley does have a lot to do...

Kakay and Paal were not helped last 20 minutes by the wide players giving up tracking back so they were both horribnly exposed and for the goal Tim not only gives the ball away to start with but then losses his man who goes on to score. Really poor but we should have had the game wrapped up before then, thought we were quite good for 70 minutes then struggled and were far too slow to react and change anything. Johansen or Dozzell needed to come on with 15/20 to go

Can anyone explain why Johansen (who needs match time) or Dozzell were not introduced?

The 2 subs he'd made hamstrung him. He only had one more occasion to make subs and had to make it work. He was too slow but also knew he was flogging Lowe when he wasn't meant to play the 90.
I'd have brought on on Johansen for Roberts and it would have freed up Tim to play more on the right to protect Kakay who was getting battered in the 2nd half. He needed protection and Roberts stopped tracking back.

It was a strange decision by Critchley to leave the substitutions of both Tim and Roberts until so late in the game. The team had put a lot into the first hour playing the high press and several were visibly tiring.
In several of our recent matches Tim is all energy for 70 minutes and then runs out of steam and I think he now needs a rest . However, the manager has to take some responsibility for not making the required changes sooner and on Saturday, Swansea took advantage and were able to get back into the game.

easy for me to say now sat in the warm a week on but I thought he could have made a triple change. Gone to a back 3 with JCS on for Chair, Johansen on for Roberts and Dozzell for Tim to freshen it up and try and regain control of the game. Doing nothing seemed a bit defeatist to me.
Not sure about the back 3. For me the main thing was to stop the carnage on our right. So bringing on Albert to support Kakay was the right move but just too late. I'd have brought on Johansen rather than Dozzell at the same time to stiffen up the midfield.
