.However, we then had to wait until 90+6mins for the next subs: Willock & Dixon-Bonner for Chair & Dozzell. If they were needed then why not earlier, or was this just a cynical use of match time? ...
Or was this Ainsworth sending a subtle message to Willock by saying your not good enough to start and even with us 4-0 down your not worth more than a couple of minutes at the end of the game.
Willock hasn't been right since Beale left and with 3 weeks left of the transfer window I can see him being allowed to leave for a minimal fee rather than be a thorn in Ainsworth's backside.

Totally agree, and as jimjams raised in last weeks podcast if we even let him go for free if he's on close to £10k a week for that money its 2 players we could bring in who actually want to be here and may buy into what Ainsworth wants to do.
Willock and Richards are playing like they want the manager gone. Ainsworth was correct to drop them. But now the test is whether the other players follow their lead to get the manager out the door or buy into what Ainsworth is trying to do.
daveb, apart from your very kind comment about Gubbins I agree with everything you said. My worry is that if Gubbins is the standard of player our development coaches are producing then its time to close the project down.
I was never the biggest fan of Warburton and some of his tactics but he was 100% correct to not include any of these under achieving development players in his first team squad. There was clearly a clash between Warburton and Ferdinand/Ramsey which lead to the eventual split but having watched players like Gubbins and Kelman play for the Development Squad where they were limited it showed that Warburton was totally right.
Yeah I've watched the highlights back and I'm talking crap about Gubbins, he was dreadful

Willock has only started 6 games in 2023, only 2 under Ainsworth. He's not been good in those 6 games but it's mad that he can't get into our team

Totally agree, I think Willock is one of those players who like Taraabt has to have an arm around him and told how good he is. I reckon if Ainsworth took him to one side and told him that he was going to play him and his mate Chair every game in their favourite positions we could well see the old Willock.
Sometimes all it takes is a bit of psychology but I'm not sure that Ainsworth is able to play the same mind games that Warnock used to use to get players performing above their levels.
