I’m all for Maidstone progression in the cup now for their sheer attitute towards the cup and hope they go as far as they can They beat my local team Chesham which I watched with my son and grandson and over 3000 other fans at the meadow Normally Chesham get about 400 fans Ipswich fielded a reserve side and underestimated Maidstone they deserved all they got. The FA cup will never be the same purely down to greedy TV sponsorship and high earning footballers who only care about their own back pockets
Only reason the FA Cup has diminished is because of the money involved in it. Big clubs don't take it seriously because they can get more money from European football. And since the advent of the Premier League anybody in that top division looks down upon the rest of the pyramid as vermin who are not only not worth their energy, but also not worth playing or even associating with; evidenced by the scrapping of the replays. But the bigger problem is teams in the Second Tier and mid/lower Premier League teams who don't take it seriously. This is because the money of the Premier League.(staying in it or even getting promoted to it) outstrips the money on offer in the cup enormously. If you can get promoted and get your hands on £100m+ in PL TV rights, why on earth are you going to take a cup competition seriously?? You just aren't.
If Saudi Arabia was to sponsor the tournament and put £10m prize money for each game you would see clubs attitude towards the tournament change overnight; first teams would be played by everyone from the top two divisions and everyone would go for it knowing it could put £50m into the kitty.
For me, my biggest gripe is bigger clubs moaning about having to play a replay. Most PL clubs (even with domestic cup games included) play less games per season than EFL teams which negates the idea of too many games. Equally, clubs playing in Europe will play 2 extra games next season, and play two-legged knockout ties, and yet you NEVER see any manager of the big clubs complain about those 'clogging up' or 'overcrowding' the fixture pyramid despite their being twice as many games in European Competitions than either one of the domestic cups.

Good points! I would rather keep the replays and tell the Pl sides to stop moaning and allow their development squads to perform!!
kingfisher I think from a sporting stand point the replays have no value given that penalty shoot outs have proven incredibly successful and popular. But I understand the economic argument for keeping them, especially when you consider replays kept Port Vale and Exeter afloat in recent years. I don't particularly care either way, but to get rid of them without consulting the EFL and National League, to have gone behind their backs and essentially given the Premier League what they want reeks of cowardice from the FA. All clubs outside the top-flight should now boycott the decision seeing as the FA cares so little about them. The organisation will soon backtrack the second it realises its flagship competition and revenue source is left with only 20 teams left in it.

Today's news was full of the FA stating they had consulted the 72 clubs, and then those clubs categorically stating they had not been consulted. I have little faith in the FA and believe the clubs!

What annoys me is the Premier League clubs moan about fixture congestion when a lot of them don't even play as many games as clubs down the pyramid.
A league 1 club for example has the EFL cup from Round 1, FA Cup from Round 1, EFL Trophy endless amounts of matches including a group stage on top of a 46 game season.
Premier League clubs who don't progress in the cups and who aren't in Europe play a lot less matches! Some Premier League clubs could play only 40 games all season with early cup exits.
And the ones in Europe have billion pound squads so should easily be able to cope.
