As much as I love Jamie, losing him for 3 months is a blow and blessing together. I do believe that with him in the team we defend from the front much better but he really doesn't have the fire power we need.
Just hoping the Smyth isn't seen as a straight replacement and we don't put too much pressure on his young shoulders too soon.

Am I right in thinking that he is only on a 1 year contract? If so, we may have seen the last of him in hoops. That would be a sad way to end a fine career with us. I'll always remember that last minute winner against Liverpool.
you could well be correct. Could still make a decent impact player for next season though? Someone to come on an run for the last 20 mins to protect a lead? (whilst we are in the championship before anyone says he will do OK in League one for us )
He will be out of contract. He started the season very well then lost his way slightly. With Eze and Oteh and Smyth starting to prove themselves I think he may have played in hoops for the last time.
If that is the case then it is a sad way for him to end his time at Loftus Road. Although in his second spell he has been unable to deliver the same pace as previously, the intensity was still there. I can only wish him a successful operation and speedy recovery.
Absolutely kingfisher, hopefully he can make a successful recovery and I definitely think he can play on (and be very good) in League 1 or 2. In the Scottish Premiership he could be a leading player if he moved up there!
I'm one of his greatest praisers for his efforts always get a shift from him. And contributes a few goals along the way. And he could be as SURREY says a good impact player next term. But I think after his contract is up that will be it in the summer.
May be able to come back for another season if they can negotiate a good salary for us and him.
I have always thought he would be best suited as a wing back rather than a striker
Other than concerns about his pace as he gets older, I do agree with you LurkR and could see him coming on for Cousins or perhaps Wzsolek if a more direct attack was needed.

Mackie is going to feature for the U23's tomorrow, maybe he will feature for the first team again before the end of the season in a bid to try and earn a new deal

Good to hear he is nearly there but, given the state of the current squad, I cannot see which player he will replace. I would put him behind Freeman and Cousins...
