very sad indeed, especially at just 61. Not sure I would goas far as to call him a QPR legend but he was defiantly one of our better players over the years and a very nice person. Only had the briefest of brief conversations when I met him in but he took the time to talk which is rare these days.
He was my idol. I started my QPR journey a little later than you guys. I remember staying up till one in the morning, with my Ray Wilkins jersey on. (It was a present from my pop and I cried the day I got it) I fell in love with his swagger. At one stage he wore his collar up (when QPR wore the Classic FM red away jersey). I still wear my collar up. I laugh when people think I'm trying to copy Eric Cantona!
I loved the partnership he formed in the midfield, often linking up with Andy Sinton and a young Bradley Allen.
I bloody loved him. It's a funny thing, life. I was sitting reading the QPR news (I've been awol for a few days) and I read of his passing. I had tears openly flowing. Such is the impact of someone who means something valuable to you.
I never felt sad that he spoke so highly of Chelsea. I only really care to remember him in QPR colours. That's the wonder of our own take on life.
I've still got so many jerseys with his name on the back.
Nearly all my passwords (there's a nice hint for anyone wanting some fun!) are raywilkins.
I'm so sad. He meant the world to me.
Farewell, Ray. You will always be my fav captain, and I'll miss you.
That is a really touching story ashqpr , one of the very best, most personal tributes to Ray Wilkins I have read. I actually think the club and his family would love to see this... the impact he had on a QPR fans life. Football is great how different players can mean different things to different people.
Football is a wonderful thing. Part of the reason I love QPR is coming here (from so far away) and always feeling that I can talk about things honestly and with passion and emotion. No shame for me at all to say how much I genuinely loved and idolised Ray Wilkins.
ashqpr you may like to see this video, top 10 goals of Ray Wilkins from QPR Memories - a channel well worth subscribing to on Youtube. I must be utilising it daily to show my little boy all the goals from when I was growing up! Many a forgotten goal and game to find with new videos being added all the time.
That video reinforces the reputation of Ray Wilkins. It is one thing to get into a good position, but quite a different thing to execute the header, shot or lob so well. He was so composed!
