Omar Bogle would be a good addition to the squad, he is 25yo, 6ft 3in and as well as scoring with his head he has scored with his left foot and his right foot. Whilst the majority of his goals have come in the Conference and League 2 they are at a rate of about 1 every 2 games.
Good rate and sounds like the type of player we should be taking a gamble on.
I really don't think we should go near Bogle, he's in the same situation as Connor as he's good in the lower leagues but not proven in the Championship. He barely scored for Wigan last season, and when he did, the majority were penalties. I really don't think that is the way we need to go forward
Fair point ranger-boy, I just like that we are signing players with something to prove now rather than people just joining for the money.
It won't always work out of course but it is a better direction as a club overall.
Look at Villa selling their soul this summer, bringing in Samba and Terry but letting Baker go in the process who they had as a youth player and invested in his development only to let him go. That stinks of us a few years ago.
That's very true, and if we had signed a few other players then okay we could take a punt on Bogle. As it seems like any striker we sign would be right among the first team (as we have nobody else) then they have to be the right player. Somebody who seems like they'll be able to hack the Championship and not someone who's coming in for the money. Whilst I agree Bogle shouldn't be thinking of his bank balance, we have to be realistic. Will he really come in and be able to fire in the goals to help us have a better season than we're all predicting? Yes possibly and no possibly not. If we do sign him then I'll give him his fair chance along with everyone else, but we need to make sure we have a bit of experience
It's a week to go and I'm very worried about our squad We needed defenders and some firepower up front We have no depth and the weak areas haven't been strengthened We're packed in midfield and scowen and freeman are good additions to that Our pre season has been so so but we've conceded quite a few goals, when you got perch and onouha in your back four it's really grim in my opinion Holloway using Huddersfield as an example of how we could be is rediculous,we've got a really tough start and it's more likely he will getting his P45 and put on gardening leave If you feel any different then please post your opinion as I think we will struggle all season
Good rate and sounds like the type of player we should be taking a gamble on.

As much as I would love us to buy a proven striker from the Premier League or the Championship it just aint gonna happen. The transfer fee and wages of top Championship striker is no longer something we can afford. The club have made it clear that we are now looking at bringing in young players who we hopefully can improve. Unfortunately that means we have got to take a chance on buying players from lower leagues and with a bit of luck they turn into the next Charlie Austin. In respect of Omar Bogle he was only signed by Wigan at the end of January 2017 and played 11 full games scoring 3 goals. Apparently he no longer fits the way they now want to play. His previous goal scoring record was 32 from 68 games at Grimsby and 62 from 111 games for Solihull Moors. I admit that his goals were at a lower level but at £800k I think he would add a bit of competition up front and could turn into that next diamond. Ideally it would be even better if one of youngsters that the club has brought through the ranks is ready to step up into the first team but because we are now a selling club any decent younster is going to be sold if one of the big boys comes calling. Unfortunately we are a feeder club and anyway as we have found to our cost you can pay £10m and still get a dud. You take a chance with any player, its all a big risk!

Stoatey makes a fair assessment of the club's position above. I would only like to add that there is indeed a huge gap between the lower divisions and that of the Championship & Premier; and that gap equally applies to the EDS squad re achieving a place in the First Team squad. I would be happy to see them in some form of competitive league of their own or individuals loaned out at the appropriate time in their careers to sides that continue that development properly. It seems to me that there is almost a hole to be filled in League One - a couple of sides that are well known for further development of Championship EDS players. It would be a niche market for a few clubs that could be geared up to a profitable way forward for them....
Why haven't we got some new strikers for god sake We seriously lacked goals last season and goals give teams confidence and more chance of getting something from a game There must be an up and coming striker from a team like arsenal or West Ham we could loan Take a chance on a lower league young striker with a point to prove If we don't get a striker or two it's a big gamble and how our board don't see it being a big risk is beyond me We also need a big controlling defender with some pace Are we loaning that Watford defender or not I want to be wrong but can't see any surprises this season I'm not a moany barsteward just a realist

To be fair single I imagine the club know everything you just put and probably agree with you too.
Problem is the market is crazy this summer and it looks like we just can't compete. Who knows how many players we may have tried and failed to sign
Look at kensalr's squad analysis from last week, we actually have a bloated squad with quite a few players on the fringes who we must be trying to offload before we can bring bodies in. That must be a factor too.
On paper we have a good squad As much as I will always respect Ollie,I don't think he's the best manager to get the best out of them He knows the board are ready to pull the trigger if we start badly and he's had a average pre season with our team I'd like a foreign manager with new ideas like Luigi di Canio he got us playing great football or even a punt on a young English manager like Karl Robinson or Gary rowett As you've mentioned northwest we have no money and we can't compete with the big spenders this season We will get an idea after the first 5 or 6 games and league cup exit how the season is going to go I hope I'm wrong but I dont feel that optimistic

The season hasn't started can we be comments about managers we would like. Lets try to be optimistic rather than pessimistic.
I am looking forward to Saturday, been a long time coming, lots of positives in preseason.

Surrey Chad Totally agree with you. As supporters we need to be optimistic until it goes sour.
Siglespeed I understand your frustration at the lack to of progress in signings and the possible lack of coaching ability but we do have a limited budget now and we can no longer afford to buy players that are no better than the ones we already have. I have not seen a post this year where I have thought that that player will improve our first team
Over the last 2-3 season most of us thought that players like Washington Sylla N'Gbakoto Borisulk JET where all good signing but they have all been indifferent or poor in parts of the seasons that they have been with us. We now need a definite policy of only signing players that stand a good chance in improving our squad. As the more mistakes we make the less money is available to put it right
I would love us to go out and buy proven good quality premiership player but that is not going to happen now. The good times were good while they happened. We need to lower our expectation now and just try to support the hole of QPR as best as we can. because the good times will return
How can we have confidence in a team that had a serious lack of form at the end of last season Got beaten badly by Norwich on the last day Just about avoided relegation It's the same team as good as and unless Holloway has worked wonders in pre season we will struggle big time I do hope I'm proved wrong I really do,we need a good start as we will start to wonder if Ollie is the man to keep stability and get us winning again Yes good times may return but we got to try and stay in this league in the short term and avoid the drop with our current crop of players Do you want to go to games and watch us lose most of our games home and away then so be it Look lads I'm not trying to put a downer even before a ball is kicked,it's my opinion and my gut feeling I'll eat my words if I'm wrong,I really will
Everything you have just put is completely valid. And you are so right on a few things it actually makes me worried! We are the exact same team that crept over the safety line and exact same team that ended last season bottom of the form guide. That is a concern.
I think through any summer optimism takes over, nobody wants to see their team struggle. It's natural to think "this could be our season" etc.
My biggest issue since the fixtures came out is how tough our first 5 games are. We really are up against it from the off. There is no breathing space.
But Holloway needs a bit of time this season. The board may give him time, but I don't think the fanbase as a whole will.
Look at the "Next Season" poll. Most of us acknowledge we will struggle.
