And just to add there clearly won't be money thrown at the squad. Just on SkySportsNews...
McClaren said "it is a coaching job as there isn't a big budget"
Ferdinand said "he is very aware we haven't got a lot of money to spend, we may need to get rid of a few to get some money in so he can replenish how he wants"........
...and Sir Les is quoted as saying that QPR wanted McClaren because of his ability to coach youngsters. I am puzzled about this as Chris Ramsey has just been awarded PL recognition of his development coaching success...

Like many, I don’t find this an inspiring choice but didn’t expect us to attract anyone who I’d consider an inspiring choice. That was one of the good reasons for keeping Olly (along with the fact that he has done a decent job!). As DTS says, let’s see what impact his much vaunted coaching skills have on our many young prospects. I’m not expecting a promotion challenge but we should be looking for a better finish and more points than last season, even with a lower budget again.
If my comment above is true then the emphasis is firmly upon developing the First Team squad from the Development players; and, with such a restrictive budget, I am really surprised that Steve McClaren has placed himself in such a difficult position! Success is unlikely but mediocrity is likely for yet another season, and that will be seen by most fans as failure. He cannot win (literally)! Have the club thrown out the baby with the bathwater...?
