Not sure that this is confirmed but why would we sell our best player for just £4m. Can't believe that we would let him go so cheaply, I bet Warnock is having a good laugh at Tony Fernandes. For me Tony Fernandes has completely mis managed our club and now he is selling our best player for an inadequate fee.
It just got worse. The fee for Smithies is just £3m with a possible £500k add on should Cardiff stay up. TF is totally mismanaging our club. He is all smoke and mirrors, if we have to sell our best player for a paltry £3m then does anybody really believe that we will ever finance a new stadium and training ground?

This is just crazy if it turns out to be true.
How does £3 million even touch the surface of what we need to meet FFP targets along with everything else?
We'd be better off turninv it down as we have a better chance of a good season if we keep him.
I still cannot seriously believe we are accepting £3 million!
Perhaps Smithies has requested a move so that is forcing our hand? He was left out of the last few games so maybe he had already alluded to his wishes?

I'm suspicious of anything that TF does. Didn't he right off off £180m of loans but only on the basis that him and the other owners were awarded £277m of shares. Maybe the £3m from the sale of Smithies ensures he will get a share dividend! I believe that even if Cardiff do pay £3m then the amount we receive is reduced because Huddersfield included a sell on clause in the original transfer. We will be lucky to recoup the £2m we paid for him.

The club are due to announce the squad traveling to Portugal later today so if he is not included that will be as good as confirming all the transfer rumours. Or they could announce his departure beforehand to avoid the fallout from him not being in the squad.
I have to question why, so early in the transfer period, we are selling Smithies for only £3m!? OK if we must sell him and it is near closing time, but this smacks of a 'fire-sale' rather than a good financial strategy... Disappointed as I felt Lee Hoos was introducing a better management line!
Before we point the finger we should consider that it may have been the player who wanted to move. We have decent goalkeeper's at the club. Since he arrived rumours were plentiful that he was not happy. 3m with add ons seems okay . How long did he have on his current deal to run.

When we consider Flint has just gone to Boro from Bristol for £7 million I just feel we could have got a lot more than the rumoured amount.
Even if he wants to move he had 2 years left on his deal. You don't accept the first offer that comes in.
If you ask most R's fans a fair % would say he is our best, most reliable player and most sellable asset so to only get £3 million is too low for me.
And if Smithies was not happy because he missed the north he isn't going to be much happier in Cardiff!

I agree with northwest and the points he has made are all totally valid. I would add that Smithies is one of the best goalies in the Championship and nobody wants to stand in his way of playing for a Premiership club but he is worth double the amount being mentioned. Both Ingram and Lumley look ok but they are still someway behind Smithies.
