They already had a solid Championship team that didn't even concede many in the Premier League. They won't struggle to score in the Championship either, they will be very tough to beat next season. A bit like Burnley when they came down, they had the majority of the squad that took them up.
If you look at the other recent Championship manager appointments there may be a gradual trend at board level towards appointing foreign managers, who not only have a sound managerial pedigree, but can moreover use their 'home' knowledge/contacts to tap into decent players from middle-to-lower level clubs from the top divisions of their respective home countries, players who will come for Championship wages which outstrip the wages at the lower level top division clubs overseas, while the board are picking up a relative bargain price-wise.
Perhaps Wagner kicked off that model, bringing over the core of Hudderfield's defensive unit from German clubs.
Norwich's German manager Daniel Farke now seems to be doing the same; Nuno Espirito Santo is looking to Portugal to sort out Wolves' problems; watch Slutsky now do likewise at Hull.
Not sure we have that advantage with Ollie's contacts in the poultry business - unless of course that explains why half of the side were running around like headless chickens in the last few weeks of the season?
Monk has been sacked tonight by 'Boro despite winning today away at Sheffield Wednesday.
A bit bizarre, surely they could have done it a week ago?
Football is so strange at times!
I always thought that Steve Gibson was an owner who understood that a manager needs a bit of time , however, it seems he has joined the ranks of those wanting instant success. Makes no sense when your team are just 3 points off a play off place, maybe there is more to it. Reminds me of Birmingham's decision to sack Gary Rowett and like that one it could be a decision that Boro come to regret!
What i would say though is my biggest reason for us not to move Ollie on is no reasonable replacement. We want a young manager who will play the kids and also some nice football? Gary Monk is certainly the man, as we have seen though it can take time for a manager to get his way of playing through to the players and i think Gary would want alot of funds to be able to shape the squad if he took charge.
Would be a good manager for us But the set of players we have may be hard to improve Holloway should look over his shoulder as the sackings are coming thick and fast now in our league If we do get rid I hope the board go for a young manager and not a been round the houses manager
PULIS I would have any day of the week and my reasons being. That we would get one of our own back home. GERRY FRANCIS.man
I have no doubt Pulis will do OK at this level but the standard of football will be awful. I agree that having Gerry Francis back would have a positive impact.
And I would make GERRY director of football. No brained. Has had experience of club football at all levels as a player and manager. AND KNOWS THE CLUB INSIDE OUT.

I think getting Gerry in to work alongside Holloway would be a good move too but can't see it happening as Holloway would see it as undermining his position.
