That West Brom defeat hurt a lot of QPR fans We were the laughing stock of English if not world football Yes I must admit the vibe feels different now and we are looking a more solid unit with good new additions But being a rangers fan we've seen time and time again how much things can change in a short space of time McClaren has made us look a more improved team already and we've been solid last few games Long may it continue
In my view McClaren deserves a lot of credit. A lot of our fanbase is very vocal when we lose and say nothing when we win, but McClaren did brilliantly to keep calm after the opening 4 games. It would have been easy for heads to drop but he clearly did a great job to keep the players believing in themselves despite the 7-1 hammering and 4 straight defeats.
People were calling for him to walk away but just a few games on we have been unbeaten since, get 7 points from 9 whilst conceding only 1 goal.
A lot of us - myself included - have said Eze and Freeman don't work out wide or in the same team, yet today they prove McClaren knows what he is doing. Given more time over the course of the season he will improve us further.
I don't like the way the club justified his appointment about working with kids and a lot have been bombed out (Kakay and Smyth can't even make the bench now) but credit where it is due he could have got the sack 4 weeks ago if fans had their way and now we look a very decent side with still plenty of room for improvement.
I was doubting the wisdom too of having both Eze & Freeman in the same side, and happy to admit it worked well against Bolton. Full credit to those who went quietly and efficiently about their shift - Hemed, Wells, Leistener, Lynch, Cousins, Lumley & Bidwell! The latter was time and time in position to take the fight to Bolton along the left wing but Hemed or others usually ignored his efforts; so it was nice to see his one-twos with Freeman late in the game. The rs need that sort of variety if they are to overcome better sides. Finally, I would like to commend McClaren for his substitutions - all well made and proved he is willing to grind out a victory (or hold onto one0!
For the time being I shall remain open minded on the whole McClaren, Eze and Freeman issues. As I have said previously we need to give McClaren at least 10 league games and then we can get a better idea of whether he has taken us forward. Whilst I admit that both Freeman and Eze did well playing in wider positions against a poor Bolton team we need to see them continue to perform on a consistent basis. Hopefully, it wasn't just a flash in the pan.
For me the one player who seems to have really improved this season is Joel Lynch. Whether it's playing alongside Liestner or McClarens influence or just being injury free I don't know but he really does deserve some credit after all the criticsm that he has received. A lot of that stick has previously come from me and I'm happy to give him some credit for his latest good performances.
Bolton started the season well I think the upheaval of admin etc affected them in this game and they can't be that poor We were simply too fast for them when we were going forward and we defended in numbers by look of it If we can beat Millwall and win against Norwich it will show McClaren has improved us big time Look at it this way we were dead and buried after West Brom and Bristol city we are now on a 4 game unbeaten run and in a 3rd round of a cup and the team doesn't look a total mess like it did a few weeks back May be a mini revival only but it's something to build on and the new additions have made a huge difference
