Where has the time gone? The summer has flown, we have a new home and the start of the new season is creeping up on us; now less than 3 weeks away.
It is therefore time to welcome you to the SIXTH season (Unbelievable Jeff!) of the QPR Match Prediction Competition for the season 2017/18! If you are a regular player from QPRnet, welcome back, and if you are a new member of our new QPR Forum, I promise you much fun awaits and many tense battles lie ahead!
Like the past five years this game is mainly focused on each QPR match with some bonus points possible each round too.
I will provide regular updates (usually at least before the next QPR match) of the ups and downs of the players along with the overall leaderboard.
I would politely ask again at this point that this season if you start to play along that you keep playing for the rest of the season. Obviously we can all forget the odd match but it ruins the Leaderboard if people drop out or give up altogether. It makes it a better game for everybody! The battle at the bottom is often just as much fun as the battle at the top so don't let a struggle put you off Please, please only start if you intend to finish. Much appreciated!
For those who have not played before here is how it works.......
Each match players predict the following:
* The QPR match score (6 points for correct score, 3 points for correct result)
* The First Goal Scorer (6 points for the correct answer)
* First Goal Time (3 points, one time bracket will be chosen)
* Bonus Match 1 - Each round of fixtures I will select another match (usually from The Championship depending on the number of fixtures) as the bonus game of the week, 3 points for a correct score, 1 point for a correct result
*Bonus Match 2 - Goal Difference – this does not affect the overall scores but will be used to determine goal difference throughout the season. I will choose another match each round and players will simply choose the number of goals they think will be scored in that game. The more wrong you are, the more goals added to your goal difference. The aim is to be as close as possible...the lower your goal difference the better.
So just to make it clearer, if you predict 3 goals and it ends 1-0, 2 points are added to your goal difference. Simple.
So just 5 things to predict each round. The maximum score possible each Match is 18 points. But even on a ‘bad round’ some points can still be salvaged. The emphasis though is on getting the QPR match score correct and the first goal scorer.
If you don’t enter a Round you get 5 penalty points added to your goal difference – otherwise players who do remember to enter can end up worse off!
In the event that goal difference is the same between 2 players at any point in the season then the player with the highest individual match score i.e 16 to 12 will be ahead.
It is a lot harder than it looks - The winning average match score last season was the lowest we have ever had - just 3.91 points per match took the title. The highest average we’ve ever had is still just 4.68.
Scoring just 4 to 5 points per match doesn't look that hard on paper, but if you can do that over the season you'll be chasing the title.
Not once did anybody score a maximum of 18 in the past 3 seasons and it only occurred once the season before that, which shows how hard it can be! But as long as you can keep the points ticking over each week you are in with a great shout. And never count yourself out... I was bottom early on last season and took home the title, whilst regularly we have players who are near the bottom at Christmas challenging for the medals by the end.
So overall just a simple game, quick to play along with and you now get a special Gold Star and person status on the forum if you can take the title!… And of course you get the pride of the forum, an online trophy for the winner and medals bearing your names for the top 3!
The bottom 3 places will receive the now infamous wooden spoons with an additional wooden spoon trophy for whomever comes dead last!
Entries are to be received before the time stated on a given match day, it can vary depending on kick off times but this will always be set an hour before kick off so that nobody can know the starting 11. This is part of the first goal scorer gamble!
