When updating the Hoops Stats after this weekends defeat I came across the fact that in last 12 games we have an even record of won 4, drawn 4 and lost 4. (16 points)
It felt to me we had actually done better than that overall, especially after the recent unbeaten run.
The 4-4-4 record is of course mid-table form which is where we currently are (11th) yet we somehow remain firmly in contention for a play off spot sitting just 4 points behind 6th place despite no win in the last 3 games.
It made me think that if we can just improve upon the 4-4-4 to make it 5-5-2 (20 points) or 6-3-3 (21 points) or even 6-2-4 (20 points) or 6-1-5 (19 points) that would give us a very realistic chance of being firmly in the play off picture heading into the final few games of the season.
On Twitter Greg Sangwine (@gsangwine) put his projection to us:
1) Preston - W 2) Wigan - W 3) West Brom - W 4) Birmingham - W 5) Bristol - L 6) Leeds - D 7) Boro - D 8) Brentford - D 9) Stoke - W 10) Rotherham - W 11) Hull - L 12) Bolton - W
7 wins, 3 draws, 2 defeats (24 points)
What do you think we can achieve?
Can we put a play off challenge together by improving on the 4-4-4 from the last 12 games?
Greg's predictions seem a little optimistic to me, although I do think we will do better in the second half of the season. The return of Hemed, Hall, Cameron & Rangel will make a positive difference, and I would go for 6 wins/ 5 draws/ 1 loss (Leeds) which gives us 23 points only. Still think that is pretty good! Is it enough for a Play-off challenge....? Possibly in this season's mix of clubs....
