Without him we would of gone down He saved a good few penalties and made many good saves to cover our butts Considering he had a crap defence in front of him he is a real talent that I'd be sad to see leave us

Agreed - he'd be a big loss. But the reality is that we're a selling club again (like we have been for 95% of our history). Buy low and sell high is the way we will survive and Smithies may be the first that we make a big profit on for a while (apart from Raheem Stirling). We do at least have good cover. And hopefully some of the fee will go to much needed strengthening of the team.
He also let in a lot of goals . Who's to say that his understudy would not have done better. He in my view is another calamity Green. Yes we are a selling club due to the size of the club and other factors always have been.
Sad to see him go as he has been one of our best players in the years he has been here, but money talks and we need money so i would sell for a high price. Sunderland just got 30 mil for their keeper so we know they have money.
With good cover two the money can be invested in areas that need strengthening.... like all over the pitch Face Palm
I don't agree pamment8 that he is another calamity Green.
He has much better command of his box, FAR better distribution and only made one or two errors last season that I recall whereas Green always had me on edge. And let's not forget he was playing behind a poor defence last season.
I think in this market he could command a fee of between £8-10 million and as Ghost says, we are a selling club again, we need to balance the books and it sends a good message really that you can come to QPR, improve and move on at a profit.
I dont think we should sell him. I think he did really well last season and we probably would have been relegated without him. The goalie is a big part of the team structure so I dont think we should risk having to change all that when we were lucky to stay up.

Reckon you and Ghost are spot on! I would be sorry to see Smithies go but, as we have an almost as good understudy (imho), I am happy to see some filthy lucre coming in!!
Last season Smithies was our best player by a country mile and its no surprise that teams like Huddersfield, Villa and Sunderland are looking at signing him. I personally dont want to see him leave because he is the main reason we are not starting this season in League 1. IMHO there is no way we should let our best players leave, much rather we offload players like El Coyote, Borysiuk, Perch, Caulker, Robinson etc., who are either not good enough or are not committed to the club.
Neil Warnock has hailed QPR stopper Alex Smithies, and says he's surprised that no Premier League team has made a move for him.
The stopper was in fine form once again against the Bluebirds, and Warnock said that he's the best he's seen for many years.
He said: "We created some chances. Smithies had no right to get to some of those saves, I thought he was brilliant today.
"If I was in the Sunday People I’d be giving him 10 out of 10, in my marks!
"He’s been good for 18 months now. When you talk about the Premier League i’m surprised nobody has come in for him because he’s the best I’ve seen for many years."

I'm amazed Huddersfield didn't come in for him. I know the lad they've got on loan from Germany has done well so far, but a move for Smithies would have made sense.
I'm of course happy we still have him, hopefully he is with us for many years.
Speaking of Huddersfield they have Rob Green today! Should have got Smithies after all!
