The final match of Phase 2 of the season has passed by in dramatic fashion with QPR losing 4-3 so let's see who is going to be in Division 1 for the final phase fighting for the title and who will make up Division 2 to battle to avoid the wooden spoons and to try and get promotion up to the top tier ready for the start of next season...
It was a scoreline nobody was ever going to predict but kingfisher and singlespeed did predict Birmingham would win
surrey chad got the call of the day being the only player to pick Che Adams as first scorer
qprallan, QPRsmith, LurkR, ranger-boy, SydneyR, savoyhoop, onenightfever, MCM Hoop, Ghost and QPRBex all got the first goal time of 16-30
Ghost did very well getting West Brom's 1-0 away win exact for the bonus match, the only player to do so.
In the end the top 3 in Division 2 and the bottom 3 in Division 1 all stayed the same as last week so there was little late drama where it really mattered. CutePR and kingfisher already knew their fate needing a miracle to survive and it is SydneyR who joins them in dropping to Division 2, going back down after just 1 phase in the top tier. kingfisher had the worst phase of all having come 2nd in Phase 1 he had 8 bonus points to start with but picked up just 24 more points for a miserable middle part of the season.
In Division 2 @singlespeed stole top spot from stoatey at the death but all that matters is those 2 are heading up along with QPRsmith who gets promotion despite starting on -2 after finishing 3rd from bottom in Phase 1. A great turnaround. All 3 will now have a chance to fight for the title but of course they will be up against it having to earn the right against those with bonus points having been outside the top tier.
Despite minxymartin failing to score for 6 matches in a row and sliding down Division 2 he avoids negative points by goal difference in the end. Rosco Bosco is the unlucky one getting -2 for the start of Phase 3 with ashqpr on -4 and onenightfever going one worst than his Phase 1 position and getting -6.
Back in Division 1 qprallan tops the pile and gets the maximum 10 bonus points to head into Phase 3 as a strong contender for the title. surrey chad pips LurkR to 2nd place so takes 8 bonus points with LurkR taking 6.
Ghost jumped 2 places at right time to snatch 4th place from MCM Hoop who finishes 5th as he did in Phase 1. It was a costly final match of the Phase for e17hoop who fell 3 places to 8th which cost him 3 bonus points for the start of Phase 3.
QPRBex will start with 13 bonus points with his 10 League Cup bonus points being added to his 3 points for finishing 6th so he is perhaps early favourite for the title but don't forget kingfisher had the 2nd most bonus points for Phase 2 and still went down whilst surrey chad had none after promotion and managed to finish 2nd. The bonus points are no guarantee of anything.
Don't forget somebody will also get 10 bonus points from the FA Cup at some point during the next phase.
Overall in Division 2 just 47 points were needed for promotion in Phase 2 whereas in Phase 1 MaxQPR missed out on promotion despite having 58 points so the standard was a lot lower!
In both phases so far 42 points have been needed to avoid relegation so that is the magic number for those in the top tier to ensure they at least start next season in Division 1.
See below for more information on Phase 3.
Here are the tables after Match 30 - the final tables of Phase 2 of the season:
Phase 3
As mentioned the final phase lasts for 16 games taking us from Match 31 to 46.
Here are the starting points and positions for Phase 3 and details on how the positions at the end of Phase 3 determine who gets what and where.
As you are probably all aware now the players who didn't get relegated from Division 1 all get a bonus based on where they finished as reward for already being in the top tier.
This will make it harder for somebody coming up from Division 2 to win the overall title this season. It is possible, but will be harder and that is how it should be as they were in Division 2 beforehand so they have to really earn it.
Everybody in Division 2 starts on 0 apart from the bottom 3 who get minus points which is a punishment for poor performance and will make it just a bit harder for them to go up in the next Phase which is just and fair given their position beforehand.
There are 2 automatic relegation and promotion spots with the final place in Division 1 for next season to be decided in play-offs involving the player who finishes 9th in Division 1 and those finishing 3rd, 4th and 5th in Division 2. The play-offs will use the actual play-off matches in real life.
Any questions please ask and of course I hope you are enjoying and continue to enjoy playing in the QPR Prediction League!
