Here are the results from the Semi Finals of our FA Cup knockout prediction cup for 2018/19:
The action started with Match 1 involving Watford and Palace. Up against each other both myself and ashqpr got the 2-1 Watford win exact. In the other semi final surrey chad and CutePR both started off going for the Watford win but the wrong score. Nobody got the first scorer or goal time. That left both ties level.
The second match to take place was Match 4 and everybody just got 3 points for predicting Manchester City's win. Nobody went for 3-2 exact so it was status quo with myself and ashqpr level on 10 points and CutePR level with surrey chad on 7 points.
Next up was Match 3 which saw Manchester United's shock defeat at Wolves which nobody predicted. Nobody got the later first goal time either so everybody drew a blank in that match meaning both ties were still level overnight heading into the final match to be played - Match 2 involving Millwall and Brighton...
... nobody got the first scorer or goal time so it came down to the result in both ties as ashqpr and surrey chad went for a Millwall win which looked certain at 2-0 up. Myself and CutePR went for a Brighton win.
It ended up as a draw as penalties do not count! So status quo once again!
It meant both ties went down to goal difference.... There were only 3 bookings in the first 2 matches but then 8 in the Wolves/Man Utd fixture and then 2 yellows and 1 red (counting as 2 making 4) in the last match; 15 in total.
surrey chad only went for 4 and CutePR went for 10 so that one was a no contest and CutePR is through to the final as she was in our trial based on the FA Cup 12 months ago which she went on to win!
ashqpr went for 16, I went for 12 and so ashqpr was closer and goes through to the final. That was a close one... if Millwall hadn't had a man sent off in the very last minute of extra time I would have gone through at the expense of ashqpr as I would have been closer as it would have been 13 total bookings. Even a booking rather than a red card would made it level and would have sent me through on count back of total score to date. I would have also seen off either of the other 2 semi finalists had I faced them. CutePR and ashpr have actually scored less points than surrey chad and myself to this point but that is cup football!
Here is how the Semi Finals ended up:
THE FINAL
So after 4 rounds only 2 players are still in with a chance of getting 10 bonus points for the QPR Prediction League:
FA Cup Prediction Cup 18/19 Final: CutePR Vs ashqpr
The points all reset to zero. Round 1-4 scores and previous GD only come into play if there are any further ties.
The Final will be based on the FA Cup Semi Finals along with 2 Premier League matches from that weekend to make up the 4 matches. The final will be available to enter in the coming days. The matches take place in just 3 weeks time so not long to wait!
The winner will of course have 10 bonus points immediately applied to their Phase 3 score in the QPR Prediction League. With both finalists in Division 2 the outcome of the FA Cup final looks set to influence the promotion race!
