Off we go without a manager to face the league leaders who have won 7 games in a row.
It seems ominous, but there is a slight (very slight) glimmer of hope in that we did somehow beat fellow promotion chasers Leeds!
John Eustace has just held a press conference and had the following to say - I've tried to transcribe the best I can:
"Monday was a sad day, nobody likes to see the manager fired. Load of respect for Steve, I've learnt from him".
"lads have been fantastic this week the way they've trained"
"the gaffer was told (he was leaving) and I was asked if I wanted to help out, Les said until they find somebody else. That's what I'm focused on now"
Eustace was then asked about McClaren being able to tell the players himself that he was leaving....
"he came in and had a meeting, very dignified, the lads were very respectful, I think they were pretty shocked but at the end of the day its a results business and results haven't been good enough so he was honest with that as well."
He repeated that the way the lads have trained and their attitude has been 'different class'
"I spoke to Steve when he left, I haven't spoken to him since. Steve brought me in, he's a guy I respect greatly. I came in to learn, to develop as a coach. I'm helping the club until they find somebody else"
Asked if it's a job he'd want full time > "listen all I'm thinking about at the moment is Norwich, it's a big game, it's been a tough week, the last thing I thought about was taking the job on full time. I'm just making sure the lads are prepared".
Asked if he could have an Ole Man Utd-esque run of form and get the job > "definitely not, Les asked me to help out until they find somebody else and that's what I'll be doing"
"as a group we've been disappointed. There is a determination to get points as we are in a relegation fight. They've prepared fantastically well this week. Hopefully we can go there and be competitive."
Asked have you changed anything this week >
"little things here and there, much the same, not much you can do in a few days. The lads are ready to go"
"every game is tough, tough league, no easy game. We'll be prepared. Looking forward to the challenge"
Asked about injuries > "a couple of niggles but apart from that we'll be fine"
