So true stoatey, we need somebody to come in who can pick up gems and rough diamonds from lower leagues.
As it stands you are correct that we are assured to be going down next season. Do doubt about it. From 30 June currently we'd have almost no defence, a midfield that has never managed to get us above a 16th placed finish even on its good days and a strike force of Smith, Oteh and Smyth.
Every soundbite that comes out of the club indicates there will be no splashing the cash or taking a risk on paying big sums to gamble on promotion. That suggests to me that unless we sell Freeman and/or Luongo (or anybody else that gains interest) there won't be money to spend aside from redistributing the money saved after losing some of the bigger earners.
In the last 23 games making up half a season we've picked up 20 points. If we carry that into next season we'll be lucky to hit 40 points and will go down. The club is at a real crossroads.
So what was the point of staying up this season as we are assured relegation next season We should of just swallowed it this year and got a good lower league manager in straight away not have a painful and agonising season next term It’s pointless getting a manager destined to fail at this level and take a nice pay off for failure as they usually do So we’re going to get beaten nearly every week lose more fans coming to watch us play, and end up counting empty seats every game instead of winning goals Oh By the way do you want a managers job where you have to sell your only quality players, only have left a few young unproven players and loan in a couple of premier league rejects Oh right when do I start On a serious note we need a manager that can swallow relegation and get us back up again and totally rebuilt team, even if it takes a few seasons
We need more then just a manager. Ive said it before and ill say it again im sure, we need to build a club identity, we need to find a play style that we can embed in the club from the youngest players to the top. Those changes need to come from a level above a manager. The manager needs to be able to apply that style to the first team, as others have said we also need to give the manager a chance to do that but i dont see how we can. Soon as we get a few bad results most fans get on the managers back and think we need a change.
Whilst we look to be assured of relegation right now we have to hope the new manager coming in is up for the challenge and is excited by the prospect of being able to overhaul the squad and get in a lot of his own players straight away. Things can change very quickly in football.
