The 7th season of the QPR Prediction League had plenty of drama as always to round off the season!
QPR at least ended the season on a high with a 2-1 win which was certainly a surprise as only 2 players predicted that; kingfisher and minxymartin with kingfisher also nailing the 2-1 scoreline to boot!
Scowen opening the scoring didn't do anybody any favours as nobody predicted him to score for just the 2nd time this season.
QPRBex, SydneyR, stoatey, qprallan, QPRsmith, Ghost, ranger-boy, MCM Hoop and LurkR got the 16-30 goal time
The bonus match ended 2-2 which only CutePR got exact in a great call.
Division 1
@singlespeed headed into the final day 2 points clear of LurkR in the battle for the title but singlespeed failed to score today. LurkR picked up 3 points from the goal time and that is what makes all the difference with LurkR becoming our champion for 2018/19 by 1 point! LurkR ended each Phase in the top 3 so is a deserved champion this season! Well done LurkR who will now proudly have a GOLD star on the site to mark being the 2019 QPR Prediction League Champion!
Commiserations to singlespeed who had an incredible second half of the season having been in Division 2 for Phases 1 and 2 but it just wasn't quite enough in the end and a silver medal is probably little consolation right now!
Elsewhere last seasons champion Ghost pipped surrey chad at the post to 3rd place and the bronze medal in similar circumstances to the top 2 with surrey chad starting the day 3rd but failing to score allowing Ghost to get the first goal time and nick the medal place. Ghost may have lost his title but he is the ultimate predictor over the years; this is his 5th medal in 7 seasons and he has never finished lower than 5th. Incredible.
At the bottom QPRsmith and QPRBex were fighting for survival and both scored 4 points but it wasn't enough. QPRsmith is therefore relegated to Division 2 and QPRBex will take part in the play offs to decide the final place in Division 1.
Division 2
Nobody scored more than 3 points in the second tier but there was still a nailbiting final day with 1 single point proving crucial.
ranger-boy started the day 4 points clear so he was safely promoted no matter what he scored thanks to the low scores elsewhere. Well done ranger-boy
Below him ashqpr was 2nd on goal difference but failed to score for the final 2 matches. Rosco Bosco picked up a single point from the bonus match and that is enough to sneak automatic promotion! ashqpr will have to make do with the play offs whilst Rosco Bosco did superbly to turn around his season after a poor Phase 2 which meant he started this final phase with negative points.
In the fight for the remaining 2 play off places SydneyR and kingfisher comfortably held on to 4th and 5th places to join ashqpr in the play offs along with QPRBex from Division 1. CutePR scored 3 but ended up 6 points away from the play off places.
The wooden spoons were all but settle unless somebody had a superb round and that was not to be meaning onenightfever and myself get the wooden spoons along with minxymartin who finishes plum last for the 2nd season in a row to get the Wooden Spoon trophy. It is quite a fall from grace for myself; 2 time champion now in the brown stuff! onenightfever was in the bottom 3 at the end of all 3 Phases so can have few complains whilst minxymartin only missed out on promotion in Phase 1 by 2 points but went downhill from there, failing to score more than 4 points in any round in the final 20 games of the season. It is the 4th season in a row in which he has taken part that minxymartin has got a wooden spoon. At least we can all start next season afresh, albeit in the second tier.
All of the awards are below along with some stats and figures.
Here is the final Phase 3 table of the season:
I am sure you will all agree that the promotion and relegation factor which was new for this season has been a success. The best players during the season still end up as the sharp end but it means the players who would be in no mans land in the middle of the table still have lots to play for to keep things interesting.
LurkR was the highest scorer across the whole season regardless of us having reset points after Phase 1 and Phase 2 so the scoring system and bonus points at the end of each Phase do work.
And if we take ranger-boy and QPRsmith as examples if we played in the old way across the whole season they would have been 40-50 points off the top and 20 clear of the bottom 3 but instead both had relegation and promotion throughout the season.
The Play Offs
Of course for 4 players the season is not over yet!
QPRBex, ashqpr, SydneyR and kingfisher will take part in the play offs to decide who takes the last remaining place in Division 1 for the start of next season.
The play offs will be based on the play off matches themselves and will be available to enter in the next 24 hours.
And to finish thank you to every one of you for playing, I truly appreciate you all taking the time to be here and to enter. It is always great fun and we'll be back with the 8th season in August! Tell your friends!
I'll post a site update in the coming days for what you can expect over the summer and going forward so look out for that
