Thank god football is nearly back and with it returns the Hoops & Dreams QPR Prediction League!
This is the EIGHTH season of the QPR Prediction League and we are excited to have you here ahead of 2019/20! If you are a regular player, welcome back.
If you are new here the game is FREE and easy to play and you can join in by becoming a site member simply by clicking here: Log in to Hoops & Dreams, I promise you much fun awaits with promotion and relegation based on how good your predictions are!
There will be a small QPR prize for the winner this season!
Like the past seven years this game is mainly focused on each QPR match but with some bonus points possible each round too. For each match you simply need to enter your predictions in the relevant numbered Match thread in the QPR Prediction Competition section of the site. The game runs for 46 games based on every QPR match in the season with the game split in to 2 divisions and played over 3 phases, after which there is promotion and relegation. There are also promotion and relegation play offs based on the actual play offs at the end of the season.
The scoring system works so well that the game is largely the same this season but there is one small new addition to the scoring system and a change to ‘Bonus Match 2’ for working out the ‘goal difference’
1) It has proven so difficult to predict the first goal scorer in recent years that if the player you predict now scores at any time you get 1 “back up” point. If you predict the first scorer this is still the same 6 points scored as before.
2) Previously for the goal difference you had to predict the amount of goals scored in Bonus Match 2 with the difference being added each week to create your goal difference. However a lot of players just played the same amount of goals each week and so it is time for a change....
Now Bonus Match 2 will still be based around 1 fixture but you have to choose which of the 2 teams you think will win or if you think it will be a draw. If you are correct you gain 1 point added to your goal difference. The higher your goal difference the better.
A new addition last season was 2 knockout cups and these will again be in play; one based on the League Cup and another using the FA Cup. These will follow QPR to begin with then using other matches (following our inevitable early exit) to make up 5 knockout rounds in total with the number of players involved reducing with each round. The winner of each cup will get 10 bonus points added to the league total in the final phase of the season (see more on promotion/relegation below). So there are 20 additional points on offer again this season.
Therefore if you enter the main game you will want to get involved with the cups too! League Cup Round 1 is already available to enter HERE.
I will provide regular updates (usually promptly but at least before the next QPR match) of the ups and downs of the players along with the league tables.
And of course don't forget to also take part in our other free prediction games "Win, Lose & Draw" and new for this season "The Lone Ranger"
For those who have not played before here is how it works.......
Each match players predict the following:
* The QPR match score (6 points for correct score, 3 points for correct result)
* The First Goal Scorer (6 points for the correct answer - *new* 1 back up point if the player you predict scores at any time)
* First Goal Time (3 points, one time bracket will be chosen from a choice of 6)
* Bonus Match 1 - Each round of fixtures I will select another match (usually from The Championship depending on the number of fixtures) as the bonus game of the week, 3 points for a correct score, 1 point for a correct result
*Bonus Match 2 - Goal Difference – this does not affect the overall scores but will be used to determine goal difference throughout the season. I will choose another match each round and players will simply choose a team they think will win or if they think it will be a draw. If they are correct their goal difference increases by 1 point. A wrong answer means the goal difference stays as it was previously.
So just 5 things to predict each round. The maximum score possible each Match is 18 points. But even on a ‘bad round’ some points can still be salvaged. The emphasis though is on getting the QPR match score correct and the first goal scorer.
If you don’t enter a Round you get -1 penalty points taken from your goal difference as a punishment of sorts so everybody who does enter will at least benefit on goal difference.
In the event that goal difference is the same between 2 players at any point in the season then the player with the highest individual match score across the season i.e 16 to 12 will be ahead. If this is tied it comes down who has predicted the most first goal scorers, then who has missed the least matches and then who has scored the least zeros.
It is a lot harder than it looks - The winning average match score last season was just 3.82 points per match. The season before it was similar at 3.93 points per round. Scoring just 4 points per match doesn't look that hard on paper, but if you can do that over the season you'll be chasing the title.
As long as you can keep the points ticking over each week you are in with a great shout. And never count yourself out... we regularly have players who are near the bottom at Christmas challenging for the medals by the end. And with promotion and relegation involved you can be in Division 2 struggling at the start of the season and be challenging for the title in Division 1 by the end of the season.
Promotion and Relegation
This is an explanation for new players. If you are a returning player nothing has changed.
For the first time at the start of last season we split into 2 divisions. New players will again start in Division 2 and will need to work their way up.
Promotion and relegation are included in the game as a result.
The QPR season will be split into 3 phases using the 46 games (games 1 to 15, 16 to 30 and 31-46).
11 players will be starting in Division 1.
The remaining players who failed to make it up to Division 1 last season and all new players will be starting in Division 2.
After 15 matches this season the bottom 3 from Division 1 get relegated, the top 3 from Division 2 get promoted. This will be the same process at the end of each phase.
In Division 1 there will be bonus points for those who finish in the top 8 heading into phases 2 and 3 as a reward for their position (ranging from 10 to 1 point). In Division 2 the bottom 3 at the end of Phase 1 and Phase 2 get a points penalty (-2, -4 or -6) as a punishment for poor performance to make it harder for them to gain promotion in the next phase.
All points reset at the start of each full season so everybody begins 2019/20 on zero points.
The champion is whoever is top of Division 1 after Match 46 and the bottom 3 in Division 2 get 'wooden spoons', but this format means there is something to play for throughout the season for everybody.
At the end of the final phase of the season ahead of next season the top 2 from Division 2 go up, the bottom 2 from Division 1 go down. However there will also be a play-off – using the actual play off matches – between the player 3rd from bottom in Division 1 and those finishing 3rd, 4th and 5th in Division 2 to see who takes the final place in the top division for the following season. In each phase there is a chance for 3 promotions/relegations.
So overall just a simple game to enter each week that is quick to play along. This season there will be a small QPR prize for the winner and of course you get a much coveted Gold Star and person status on the site if you can take the title!
The bottom 3 places will receive the now infamous online only wooden spoons with an additional wooden spoon trophy for whomever comes dead last!
