With just over 2 weeks to go before the transfer window closes it still seems very quiet on our quest for a goal scorer. If our scouts ever put together a list of decent of free or cheap goalscorers it must be getting shorter by the day. Goalscorers are the most important players in the game and every team needs at least one but for whatever reason we continue to drag our heels.
As mentioned elsewhere we have missed out on the free transfers of:
Lawrence Shankland, who has scored loads of goals in Scotland Tom Eaves, 21 League goals last season for Gillingham.
For a small fee we could have signed:
Freddie Lapado who scored 18 goals for relegated Plymouth (£500k)
If we wanted to go for a slightly more risk and reward option then a goalscorer like Mo Eisa, who was prolific in non league and scored a goal every 2 games at Cheltenham. ( now gone to Peterborough for £1.5m).
I would rather we risk spending £1.5m on buying a young prospect rather than pay the same amount or more in wages to a Wells or a Hemed. Even getting a proven goal scoring youngster like Troy Parrot (Spurs) or Mason Greenwood (Man Utd) on loan would be a benifit.

I keep reading that we are getting an Arsenal youngster to play up front but who that is would be anybodys guess and may not be true.
I've always agreed with you stoatey that players who have a good scoring record at lower levels are worth a risk of they won't break the bank.
I'd rather try a lad who is knocking them in for fun in non league (even if they don't quite make the grade) than put up with the likes of Wells and Hemed putting in half arsed performances again.
As I have said elsewhere, it seems as if we are restricting ourselves when selecting targets to those Warburton likes. This has only one advantage: He knows how they have performed (in the past) so can adapt to his playing style. The contra position would be that we are ignoring other potential targets in what is already a small pool...
Kyle Lafferty has just been released by Glasgow Rangers.
Our need for strikers + Warburton's penchant for players who have played at clubs he has previously managed + free + proven(ish) at Championship level.
You do the maths
p.s. personally I can't stand him, nasty piece of work... but maybe that's what we need.
