The last match before the international break

Sheffield Wednesday have been hero or zero so far this season with 3 wins and 2 defeats, they have yet to draw. They have won both home matches without conceding a goal.

After the 3-1 win against Wigan and a great second half performance I would have said we would come in to this match with confidence, but after the poor cup defeat in midweek that confidence could have evaporated somewhat.

We did grab an unlikely win at Hillsbrough just 4 months ago and of course we could face former R Massimo Luongo (although he is likely to be on the bench)

How will QPR line up after 7 changes in midweek?

How will we fare?

Our Achilles heel is our defence and especially the central defenders. Barbet has been a weak link in most of our games and Leistner didn't cover himself in glory against Portsmouth, however I fully expect Warburton to play them both at Hillsborough. Its going to be vital that the 2 DMs support the central defenders and therefore I can see him playing Hall and Cameron in thhose roles because both have have played in the centre of defence. Its even possible that Warburton might tinker and use Cameron as a centre back possibly alongside Hall.

Chair deserves a starting place but I think Warburton will play BOS and Eze either side of Amos. Up front the greater physical presence of Hugill will probably see him start over Wells.

Assuming everyone is fit I would expect us to line up as follows.

Lumley
Kane, Leistner, Barbet, Manning
Hall, Cameron
BOS, Amos, Eze
Hugill

Still no Amos or Cameron. Leistner, Hall and Barbet all start so it looks like perhaps 5-3-2:

Eze Ball Chair
Hugill Wells

If it the usual 4-2-3-1 Hall must be in midfield and I'm not sure how Wells fits in to that shape.

An impressive turnaround again after going behind to ANOTHER penalty... are we breaking records for conceding penalties?

Hugill with both goals in quick succession around the hour mark put us ahead.

Let's hope we hold on for 3 points!

Very, very impressive to come back away from home.

Hugill with 5 goals in 6 games. Superb.

There is a lot to like about QPR this season, we should all get behind the team and see where we end up!

Queens Park Rangers recorded back-to-back Championship wins for the first time since December 2018 with the win against Sheffield Wednesday.

The 2 league wins in the past week move us up from 19th place (after our Swansea defeat) back up to 8th, with 10 points from the opening 6 games.

After 6 games last season we were 21st with just 4 points so we are 13 places and 6 points better off heading into the first international break of the season.

We won at Hillsborough by the same scoreline as the last day of last season

It was a win that ended Sheffield Wednesday's 100% home record and was also the first goals they have conceded at home.

Jordan Hugill has scored 5 goals in 6 league games (5 starts, 1 sub)

Jan Mlakar made his league debut for QPR against the Owls.

Dominic Ball has come in to the side and started the last 2 league games and we have won both.

Toni Leistner also has a 100% win record from 2 sub appearances and 1 start

Todd Kane tasted victory with QPR for the first time after 1 draw and 2 defeats in his previous 3 league appearances.

I had this predicted as a 2-2 draw because I thought both sides would find it easier to score than defend, whilst the majority went for a Wednesday win. So full credit to the Rs for making this an unexpected win! We may be up to eighth in the league but surely we must be top of the penalty table....?

This has to stop as they are cheap goals to give away
We got a bit lucky as hugill’s goals looked offside especially the second one and the point blank miss by the owls in the last minutes
But you buy your luck and we are not easy to beat on our day
The players look a lot more confident than last season and warburton gave them a kick up the backside after Pompey I reckon
Saturday night feels better after a win

The penalty was awarded against Hall but it was soft and it was one you only get if you are playing at home.

In the 2nd half against Wigan Warburton went 3 - 5 - 2 and because it worked he did the same again today with just about the same team. Maybe he has stumbled across a more suitable system for our players. Leistner might be slow but he gives us a much more solid backline.

The last time QPR won two consecutive league games having come from behind was in November 2006.

QPR won an away league game after conceding the first goal for the first time since beating Wolves in August 2015 (D11 L42).

Just savoured the full 90 minutes on video and no doubts that it was a well-deserved victory. Their penalty was incredibly soft - a typical Forestieri over-reaction - and we were denied an equally soft one at the other end. The Rs were patient, hard-working and inventive; whereas Wednesday have become a team that relies on a break or a penalty whilst they kick the living daylights out of the opposition! You could suggest the referee should have got a better grip on the game, but there were a fair number of yellow cards and it was still going on, with the Rs dropping at times to the same, low level... I pity the Wednesday supporters in having to support a team playing like that, and feel sorry for Mass Luongo in seeing his talents aiding thugs!
Anyway, 10 points in the bag compares extremely favourably with this time last season!
