The quality of football

It’s much better to watch than recent seasons we’ve had
The players look so much more composed on the ball and yes errors are there but generally we look a very tidy team on the ball
I’d say we just lack a little bit of pace to be right up there,but we are going to be very hard to beat
We control possession in most games and keep the ball down,rather than lump it to 6ft 4 strikers like Matt smith
General vibe and the way the players are approaching games seems to be far more positive
The crowd just need to be the same and so far it’s working
Even I’m a bit more optimistic than I have been for a long time

I think hugill is turning a few heads now and I didn’t think he’d cut it with us but he’s proved a few doubters wrong so far

As ever, stoatey does not speak with forked tongue ! Last season it was painful to wade your way through the full 90 minutes videos but, so far, not this season. Even when we lose the play is good enough for you to feel proud of supporting a team trying to play well. It is true we are not getting enough chances converted up front into actual goals (but I hope that will change as the strikers get more 'tuned in'), and we have been far too vulnerable at the back against long balls (from crosses or shots) & stupid penalties (but I feel the introduction of 3 x CBs that includes Leistner has made a noticeable improvement). I am quite willing to admit that at the time I could not see why we had to have the large turnover of players in the summer, but now I appreciate we have players with sufficient ball-skills to cover all positions, so we can keep watching decent games! 

I would add that WhoScored.com's 'Team Of the Week' featured Eze last week and this week it was the turn of Hugill and Manning. Last season I only remember Freeman getting in! This is an indication of how we have quality players who are playing quality football.

From the opening minutes against Stoke it was clear we were on to something this season. And as time is going on we are only going to improve.

We are thoroughly enjoyable to watch and as others have said you can forgive defeats when we have given it a good go and played some attractive stuff. The team have been clapped off after draws and defeats this season so far which is certainly something that hasn't happened in recent seasons.

Warburton deserves so much credit to implement a style of play whilst bedding in 15 new players. And let's not forget that to him they were all new players in the squad that he had to assess and work out who worked for him and who didn't.

I already feel we should commit to Warburton for the long term. If we give him 3/4 years to keep implemting his ideas and to further bring in players that suit his style and plan then we could really achieve something. We also need to move towards having the same style of play throughout the club down to youth level and this will have long term positive effects.

Long may the improvement continue though and hopefully we can go from strength to strength.

Let's not get too carried away with Warburton, we have only played 6 league games and even though he is our first manager since Neil Warnock in 2010 to win his debut game we shouldn't get carried away just yet.

He is on a 2 year contract and if we are still doing well at Christmas then maybe we give him an extension. He has certainly instilled plenty of players with confidence and we have started the season well but didn't McClaren have us in the upper reaches of the Championship at one stage last season before everything came crashing down. Don't forget that the best current players at QPR are Lumley, Manning, Eze and Chair who were all here last year and have improved with games. Its possible that Warburton has improved them but it's also possible that they have got better because of last seasons experiences in the first team and of being on loan.

Warburton still has lots of questions to answer, like

What is your best team?
What do you think is your best formation?
Of all the permanent signings you have made at QPR, is their a decent one? (IMO its Kane who looks good but for some reason he struggles to get in the team).
Why do you rate Barbet but not Leistner who is clearly our best central defender?
At the start of the season we needed to buy a decent central defender and a goalscorer, it didnt happen, is there any chance that we might get either in January ?

I won't go on but I think that it would be fascinating to hear what he has to say.

If we are top of the table and 10 points clear on 1st January, then maybe we could extend his contract a bit longer.

Hugill  has never been a goal scorer, his record of around 1 goal every 4 games is poor and is part of the reason we got him on loan. His record is only slightly better than Matt Smith who we sold to Millwall and is worse than both Wells and Hemed.

In the last  5 seasons his best tally of goals in one season was 12 goals in 44 games (1 goal every 3.67 games) when at Preston in 2016/17. 

Hopefully he will have an absolute storming season and score more than 12 League  goals for us but if he does it would be exceptional and something he has never done before.

Someone like Charlie Austin (1 goal every 1.88 league games)  is a goal scorer or even a Brit Assombalonga ( 1 goal every 2.38 league games)

Hugill is going well but he isn't Premiership class. If he was then  West Ham would not be loaning him to Middlesborough or us. He is not even guaranteed a place in our starting line up.

The fact he only scored 6 goals in 37 games last season reinforces what I said.

Not critising him just stating facts.

I don't disagree that he is currently a form striker in the Championship along with Borja Baston, Lyle Taylor and Alexsander Mitrovic. I hope he keeps scoring.

As I said I hope he has a storming season and it would be great if he gets us 20+ goals but if we base things on previous seasons its not impossible but  it's highly unlikely.
