I read somewhere that their transfer window closes on Friday 9th. How much would they have to offer to convince us to sell? I personally don't want to lose Ilias but we will surely sell if the price is high enough, certainly after the recent signings.
That offer is £4.24m so, assuming jimjams is talking Sterling, £7m is a distinct improvement on this. Personally, even though the market is poor at present, I still think he is worth more. I was thinking more like £10m to give up a major player like Illias.
Choosing a right or wrong time to sell any player is a gamble and I'd suggest if Chair is currently valued at £4.25m he will still be worth that figure in 6 months time.
Chair's contract still has 18 months to go and keeping him until the end of the season may be a gamble worth taking if he keeps us in the Championship.
The Belgian court has given him a 12-month sentance with another 12 months suspended plus he was also ordered to pay the victim £13,400.
Apparently Illias was in court to hear the verdict.
A club statement said:
"The club are, and have been, in regular contact with Ilias Chair’s legal team regarding a charge of assault which has been made against him. The legal proceeding is yet to reach its conclusion. As such, the club will be making no further comment at this stage."
Chair has appealed his sentence but even if convicted he might not actually serve any time behind bars.
The Belgian system has been hampered by a massive over-crowding problem in the country’s jails in recent years.
Until September 2022, anybody handed less than three years jail time would not see a single day behind bars.
Last September, laws were tightened further so that those with shorter “effective” sentences were meant to spend at least some of that time locked up.
But with the over-crowding still a factor, the practicality is that those with a sentence of less than two years can ask to be punished outside of jail.
Belgians generally serve only one third of their allotted time and the last six months of that can be outside prison with electronic surveillance – effectively the entirety of any jail time under 18 months.

Because he earns his living abroad, would they tolerate him being 'tagged' in the UK I wonder?
