I tend to treat these rumours with scepticism but the fact that Dinzeyi has played for the U23s this week gives this rumour a lot more solidity. (btw Both he and Oteh were the only scorers in the match against Coventry.) It may also explain why Tony Leistner was loaned out. If it happens then I will be delighted at having some back-up in a an area we are struggling with, and as he has only a year on his current contract (with little prospect of first-team match time) he could become permanent too. He is apparently a tough CB with England U18s & U21s experience so, despite the moans from some fans about needing an experienced CB instead, he looks a real prospect. Just not sure I would be happy for him to play alongside Masterson just yet though!
Its clear that Warburton doesnt want Leistner and maybe they see him staying in Germany despite his contract running until 2021.
In addition I think the club will want to offload Giles Phillips because he doesn't seem to have progressed as much as we thought he might.
That would leave us with just 3 central defenders and therefore it makes sense to start looking at some replacements.
Out of interest do we know how long Hal has left on his contract, I know he signed an extension in 2019 but I can't remember if it was for an extra year or 2 years.

I think Leistner also wanted to go back to Germany so I think both parties will be after a permanent move away in the summer.
Hall's contract runs out in the summer. As far as I'm aware his original deal ran out in 2019 but he had an option to extend it so that gave him a further year. We all expected him to leave last summer as we believed his contact was up, but then there was no news on him being released or being offered a new deal.

Wish that Warburton or any member of his staff had seen Hall play in the DM role as I feel he is the natural replacement there for Cameron. [If you are reading this Gaffer, Sir then please remember I suggested this...] Then we can release Cameron and have Hall cover both roles instead. Simples!

With the likes of Rangel, Cameron, Hall, Manning, BOS and Pugh out of contract this summer and Amos, Clarke and Hugill due to return to their parent clubs it's going to be an interesting few months. Admittedly Manning, BOS and Pugh have extension options but it's almost certain that Eze will leave and if Leistner and Phillips are also released we might be struggling to get a team.
Players like Rangel and Cameron are now becoming injury prone and struggle to play more than a game a week which makes it highly likely they will not get a contract extension.
Hopefully, the scouting team are out looking for replacements.
Question: Does everybody think the same as me that it is easier for a development CB to slot into the side than a development midfielder or forward? I base this not just upon Masterson's achievement to date, but also what I hope is the logic that it is only the pace of the defending/ball-movement that they need to adapt to, having already got the build and positioning in place; whereas a midfielder or attacker has to learn to cover/support other players, anticipate even more where the ball might end up, take less time to react, and still maintain the higher pace. I am not saying it is a great difference, purely that one exists and that a CB like Dinzeyi should slot into the side quicker as a result. Thoughts?
I think it simply comes down to the ability of the player and then the confidence they gain in the early games.
If a player is good enough they will always shine and take their chance.
For others it can depend on how things go in the games. A striker could be thrown in, score 5 in 3 games and his career takes off. If he barely gets a kick and doesn't score he probably wouldn't be seen again until after further loan spells.
Look at Masteron - he played brilliantly in the cup, we didn't concede when he came on against Brentford and then another clean sheet against Leeds. The fans took to him, he plays with confidence and we all look forward to seeing more. Had we lost the cup game 3-0 with him at fault for 2 goals he'd be out on loan in League 1 right now.
I'm pretty much in agreement with northwesthoop but I also think that kingfishers point about size can be key. A development CB tends to be a bigger more mature player than most of the other youngsters and that physicality helps when they get a first team call up.
The more attacking players like BOS, Smyth, Eze, Chair etc., tend to have plenty of pace and skill but are slighter and need longer to get used to a more physical game than they are used to against their own age group. Interestingly all of these midfielders have benefited from playing in the lower leagues where they are up against physical but slightly slower players where they have honed their skills and found the confidence to know they are good enough to play in the first team.
