According the the press QPR made a six-figure bid for Hamilton Accies central defender Jamie Hamilton but their initial offer has been turned down. If Rangers are to return with a second offer, they would likely have to stump up a fee closer to The Accies’ £1.5 million valuation.
I might have known Stoatey would beat me to this story! Anyway, here is some extra detail:
Mark Warburton has been linked with a number of names from the Scottish leagues this season, and 18-year-old defender Hamilton, of Hamilton, is the latest. QPR are said to be rivalling Brighton & Hove Albion for Hamilton’s signature – he headed down to the AmEx Stadium for a four day training camp with club last month. But now after the R’s have supposedly had a bid rejected for Hamilton, the club are now expecting a subsequent bid from Brighton to come in. Hamilton is a Scotland U19 international and has featured 12 times in the SPL this season – missing a few games through injury, and a few through suspension after being sent off twice in his last five for the Accies. There’s also been interest from Germany – both Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg offered the 18-year-old to come over and test out their training facilities, but the club turned down both offers. He’d be a keen signing for QPR, and it’s a club that might prove to be his best option. Warburton has long had a reputation for maximising younger players, and he’s done so again this season at QPR.
It is good to see us being linked with this type of player and good to see Premier League interest so if we do sign him that bodes well.
The article makes this good point:
Warburton has long had a reputation for maximising younger players, and he’s done so again this season at QPR.
The way we have progressed as a club and the way players like Eze and BOS have progressed on the pitch will definitely help us to attract players going forward in a way we perhaps couldn't over the past few years.
Apparently Hamilton (the club not the player or musical) want £1.5m and that is why they rejected the Rs initial 'six figure bid'. I did a check and found he has already managed 3 straight red cards!? He is also only my height, 1.78m tall, so hardly a commanding CB....
