2019/20 End Of Season Stats
QPR finished the season on 58 points in 13th position and unbeaten in the last 3 games
We were technically 14th before Wigan had their 12 point deduction applied but either way it is our best finishing position in the last 4 seasons and only 2 points shy of our best total since relegation.
Our average league position over the 46 games was 12.45 so our finishing position is very fair!
We finished 12 points off the top 6 and 10 points above the bottom 3. Very mid table.
Having resumed on 50 points after lockdown we could have lost every single one of the last 9 games and we would still have survived the drop.
The 76 goals conceded is the worst season defensively in the last 51 years (worse since 1968/69).
Our 67 goals scored was the most we have scored in a season since our Championship winning season 2010/11 (when we scored 71). It is 7 goals more than we managed in our play off winning season.
Combined that means we had the 3rd worst defence but the 4th best attack this season.
Next season will be our 6th consecutive season in The Championship. Time flies.
We have never in our history spent more than 7 seasons in a row in the second tier... so expect something to happen over the next 2 season!
Player Stats:
Jordan Hugill and Nahki Wells were equal top scorers with 15 each. Ebere Eze scored in each of the last 2 games to reach 14 for the season. Next was Bright Osayi-Samuel on 6.
3 QPR players have netted at least 10 goals in all competitions in a single campaign for the first time since 2003-04 (Paul Furlong, Kevin Gallen, Martin Rowlands & Tony Thorpe in 2003-04). Similarly QPR have had two players (Hugill and Wells) score 15+ goals in a single season for the first time since that 2003-04 season (Gallen 17, Furlong 16).
Speaking of Ebere Eze he was only the 3rd QPR player in the last 12 seasons to start every match of the season. Only Onuoha and Smithies had managed it in that time. He is the first forward to achieve the feat since Kevin Gallen 15 years ago. The season Eze dominated started and ended with wonderful goals from him. Apt.
Percentage Stats & Key Players:
29 different players made an appearance for QPR this season - including 2 debutants, Gubbins and Ramkilde, on the final day. Ramkilde is the first Danish player to represent QPR since Marc Nygaard in 2008. Gubbins is the youngest player to represent QPR this season, aged 18.
Of those 29 players who played this season 14 are aged 23 or under.
Only 5 are aged over 30 - and Wells and Pugh are no longer at the club, with Rangel likely to follow.
After Ebere Eze's 46 appearances Ryan Manning and Ilias Chair were next highest on the list with 41 appearances each.
Wins:
If we consider players who played in a minimum 20% of the matches the player with the highest win percentage was Marc Pugh - we won 48% of the matches Pugh played.
Leistner (45%), Barbet and Scowen (both 44%) were close behind. There was a bit of a gap then back to Nahki Wells on 38%.
Did we make a mistake not renewing the contract of Marc Pugh?
Should we have let Josh Scowen go? He had our 3rd highest win percentage last season too.
Should we be looking to reintegrate Leistner into the team?
Defeats:
By far the worst link appears to be Lee Wallace. We lost 73% of the matches he played, only winning 2 of his 11 appearances.
Behind Wallace we have Masterson, Shodipo, Oteh and Kane all with defeat percentages over 50%. Oteh and Shodipo were largely subs so that is perhaps unfair. But for Todd Kane his defeat percentage of 53% is way ahead of his position rival Angel Rangel on just 33% defeats.
In terms of losing the least as expected the same names appear as those who won the most....
But top of the list is Josh Scowen who lost in just 28% of his appearances. Barbet and Pugh were next on 30% defeats, followed by the experienced heads of Rangel (33% defeats) and Cameron (36%)
Goalkeepers:
In the battle of the goalkeepers Lumley started 27 games, Kelly 19.
Lumley proved slightly more successful with 37% wins to Kelly's 32%. Lumley also lost less matches - 41% to 47%
