New Signing - George Thomas

Funnily enough I thought of Matt Smith from Man City too - Wales international without breaking through with his premier League club, promising loan spell abroad but unproven in this country. He could go either way.

He says he never stops running so has the right work ethic. Looks like he replaces Pugh in the squad as he can play on either flank and works hard. He captained Leicester U23's but never played for the first team.

Be interesting whether they see him as a replacement for Eze or where they intend to play him.. He is a 23-year-old who is five-foot-eight-inch and plays as an attacking midfielder. He has signed for 3 years with an option for a fourth.

In his career he has played 104 games mainly for Coventry and Scunthorpe in League 1 scoring just 13 times,  (1 goal every 8 games).

Leicester loaned him to the Dutch side Den Haag in January 2020 where he played just 3  games for them until the Dutch season was stopped due to the virus.

He has apparently been on our radar for several seasons and ultimately if he doesn't work out then it just his wages that we lose.

This guy is from so far leftfield the club tweeted yesterday about George Jones rather than George Thomas! Even the club don't know who he is

I can only really remember him playing in a couple of games and he wasn't great but I struggle to be impressed by any Warburton signing. He might just have been unlucky because it seems he has been a bit of a sick note and has kept getting minor injuries. The other thing that goes against him is his height because from what I remember he was smaller than everyone apart from Chair.

Interesting that the media are now reporting that Blackpool and Portsmouth have made enquiries about taking him on loan.

When we have a fully fit and available set of players he isn't getting close to a first team appearance but with Chair at the ACON and with league and cup games coming thick and fast it might leave us very light if the club do let him go.
