They adopted a high press, pushing their back line much further up than normal. That meant the midfield became congested and Warburton's plan to dominate it meant little
And if every opposition were to do this against us?
We have no hugill or eze for goals so we will have less goals in the team this season and that’s only to start with it’s a very young lightweight squad this season too at the moment we can’t tip toe round teams you need some muscle in midfield and defence and ultimately some proper skill, please don’t tell me Carrol is seen as being eze replacement Because he is not and never will be plymouth are a tidy team and had good form before last season ended and score highly too crazy to think this squad would actually suit Neil Warnock as a manager or Karl Robinson lets play boring football and win not open football and win or lose high scoring games

Yup that is my fear! Last season a few sides either deliberately or as part of their normal play adopted this approach and made it very difficult for us. Warburton and his coaches need to recognise this and adapt the team's play. One way is to have the two strikers ready to take a early through ball (either diagonal or straight through) by placing themselves on either side of the opposing CBs. Our goalie occasionally mixing up the play by delivering a long ball to the strikers is another way to adapt. Not as pretty but Warburton has to recognise our 'triangles' are neither pretty or effective if the result is not a ball into the penalty area.
This from the WLS in their article about 'Three Things We Learned...' (funny how their is always 3):
QPR still lack a midfield enforcer
Rangers have plenty of midfield options yet not a single one of them seems capable of consistently running the show at Championship level. Geoff Cameron, who didn’t play this weekend, is 35 and was hit-and-miss last season. Luke Amos is far from the finished article, Dom Ball is a grafter and Carroll has struggled in the second tier. Ilias Chair, meanwhile, is still developing and in any case prefers to operate further forward.
I sort of understand this idea but have to say that when both Ball & Cameron operate together it does seem to work better. The problem is that Cameron will not manage all the required games, so an understudy is needed. I keep mentioning Masterson for that role, and if Dickie & Barbet are first choice for CBs then Masterson could understudy Cameron.
