John Eustace has reported that Jordy de Wijs and Sam Field should both return to training next week. Once they are both fit it will not only be a boost to the whole squad but it will be interesting to see how they fit into Warburtons plans for the rest of the season.
Both Field and de Wijs will add some much needed physicality to the team whether that's as a starter or coming off the bench.
Whilst I believe Field has a bit of class and will almost certainly replace Ball in central midfield the intriguing player for me is de Wijs. Do we expect him to replace Cameron in the centre of a back three or has he been brought in solely to replace Masterson as a bench warmer and only used in case of injury.
Should de Wijs replace Cameron in the team it would also mean that we would be looking for yet another player to take over the captaincy. I had always thought that Cameron was a liability as a centre back but that was when playing in a 2 rather than the current 3 man set up that has looked quite decent. I don't know much about de Wijs but he looks a big unit and if he has any pace whatsoever he could be a big asset in a slow back line.
The addition of Field and de Wijs certainly looks to have added some much needed physicality that I hope gives us an even more solid team. Should Cameron lose his place in the team then we have a ready made replacement as captain in Charlie Austin.

Austin should be Captain but I cannot see him dropping Cameron this season. Since Warburton took over Cameron has pretty much always been picked when fit.
I'm not convinced by De Wijs and would almost bet he may not feature at all. He is cover. I can't see him getting called into the team unless we go on a bad run.
Field is definitely a better player than what we have. It will be a bit of a kick in the teeth for Ball to lose his place to 2 loan players in Johansen and Field.
It should be noted the reason they were talking to Eustace was because Warburton was not well... and he also mentioned that Dykes' head injury still put him 50/50 only for the (now postponed) game. So Dykes must have been even worse than we all thought. Cannot fault his heart and his effort!
