First start of the season for Southampton today and he scores 2 goals. He is a born predator. Even at the top, top clubs he would guarantee goals. Can't believe Southampton took so long to start him in a team criticised for lack of goals.
Watching him in that game I was reminded of all the skills and experience we lack - working the defenders, looking for space at the right time, one-touch football, and ability in both the air and ground! The closest we have is Matt Smith, and that says a lot...
What a fantastic thought that we could get him back, unfortunately I bet we couldn't even afford his wages these days. His record for us was 48 goals from the 89 games he played ( 1 goal every 1.85 games). If you look at his overall record (including when he played for Kintbury Rangers) it shows he has played 405 games and scored 239 goals (1 goal every 1.69 games) A top goal scorer me thinks!
Hard to analyse his style really - not fast, not especially tall. But always in the right place and a great finisher. However he does it those stats don’t lie. He won’t be coming back but I hope those goals at the weekend kick start his Southampton career. I’m glad he came here and I wish him well.
Just to prove what a phenomenal record Charlie Austin had for QPR here are the scoring records of our current forwards:
Connor Washington's record for QPR is 69 games (includes appearances as a sub) and 11 goals ( 1 goal every 6.27 games) whilst his overall record for every club he has played for is 126 goals from 304 games (1 goal every every 2.41 games. The majority of Connor's goals (74) were scored in non league football for St Ives Town.
Matt Smith has played 49 games (includes appearances as a sub) for QPR scoring 14 goals (1 goal every 3.5 games), his career record is 65 goals from 252 games (1 goal every 3.88 games)Most of Matt Smiths games have been at Championship and League 1 level.
Idrissa Sylla's QPR record is 48 games (includes appearances as a sub) and 14 goals (1 goal every 3.43 games). In his career Sylla has made 238 appearances for mainly French and Belgian teams scoring 62 goals. (1 goal every 3.84 games).
Jamie Mackie's is now in his 2nd period with QPR and his record for us is 24 goals from 149 games (includes appearances as a sub) played( 1 goal every 6.21 games). Mackie's career record is 70 goals from 457 games (1 goal every 6.53 games).
Interesting stats Stoatey. So Sylla nd Smith are scoring at the rate we should have expected given their previous stats. Only Washington is disappointing - which supports the claims by some that he is not Championship standard. Personally I still think he has something but he needs to start showing it soon!

Great stats stoatey. In terms of Austin they prove what we all know that he is more than twice the player ofany of our current strikers.
Our current strikers are just an average bunch. Smith is more potent off the bench, Washington lacking in a few areas, Sylla only good in the box, Mackie all heart but not prolific.

I love Conor Washington's work-rate and enthusiasm but I feel he has already been given enough time to adjust to the Championship. Like Mackie, I will be sad to say goodbye to him but we must if we are to afford a better striker.
Let's call back that lad on fire eze at Wycombe He will be raring to go
Agreed. He already looks too good for League 1. The only issue is throwing him in when we are goal shy and having the fans on his back if he doesn't hit the ground running, we are a fickle and impatient bunch
I'd have Adel back in a heartbeat. He gets you off your seat - sometimes for the wrong reasons - but he was always worth the admission fee. Attendances would be up and there wouldn't be games like Saturday.
Our current squad lacks a star man, somebody to make the difference from a mid table team to promotion contenders.
Tis true we have no star player in the squad. We have a decent midfield supporting a makeshift defence and outclassed attack....
btw Charlie starts for the Saints against Bournmouth today and feel this game will suit his style of play....
