He caused the Bournemouth defence nothing but trouble Not the most elegant player but he is a predator and shows just what we are missing at the moment
One bit of the stats missing with AUSTIN. How many were penalties.
Up to Saturday Charle had scored 239 goals from 405 games of which 21 were penalties, therefore, 218 goals came from open play. This means that his overall record from open play is 1 goal every 1.85 games.
His record for QPR is 48 goals from 89 games of which 9 were penalties and means that 39 were from open play. This equates to 1 goal from open play for every 2.28 games played.
What ever way you want to slice his goal scoring record its still pretty impressive.
I felt you cannot fault Charlie Austin's record as a striker, and glad to see the stats show just how impressive he has been. Our current strikers must be averaging a goal each 5-6 games, at best, I would have thought...?
Charlie scored a total of 48 goals from a total 89 games for QPR . His record reads 45 goals in 82 league games, 1 goal from 2 appearances in the League Cup , 2 goals from 3 ppearances in the Playoffs and he also played twice for us in the FA cup without scoring. Overall that equates to 1 goal every 1.85 games.
His scoring record for QPR is up there with other great QPR strikers like Clive Allen who scored 83 goals from 147 appearances, 1 goal every 1.77 games and Sir Les who scored 90 goals for us in 169 games, 1 goal every 1.88 games.
However, most would struggle to match the following ex QPR players:
William Heathcote made 102 appearances for the R's and scored 89 goals (1 goal every 1.15 games). He made his debut in 1943. Pretty impressive at any level !
George Goddard who made his debut for us in 1926 and scrored 186 goals from 260 games, 1 goal every 1.4 games. A top goal scorer for many years.
Dave Mangnall made his debut in 1939 and played 138 games for QPR scoring 97 goals which is 1 goal every 1.42 games.
Other players to have impressive record were Frank Neary, 34 goais from 58 games (1 goal every 1.7 games) and Harry Wiles, 25 goals from 43 games (1 goal every 1.72 games)
How much would a goal scorer of their calibre be worth today.
Good info stoatey! Nice to draw comparisons with past players too. I do feel that pitch conditions and a lighter ball mean that past players probably had it harder when it came to scoring, but Austin's record is enviable!

Having already been told to move on by the Southampton manager Austin tweeted this tonight which pretty much confirms he will be leaving the Saints.
Hopefully he has earned enough money and now wants a legacy. He's a real hero at Loftus Road to many. If we can pay Wells and Hemed £35k per week we can make a move for Charlie!
Charlie is coming up for 30 and I reckon he is good for another few years. He knows that his playing years are now in the latter stages and would probably want a 3 y contract. Whilst most fans would love to see him back I suspect that the clubs policy of wanting to sign young players as well as Charlie's injury history will scupper any chances of us seeing him back and playing for QPR.
If we can afford him then it is a real Win-Win as he has something to prove and we can use his experience alongside youth. I just feel it is more likely that Austin will go to Bournmouth or another lower PL side, ending up on the bench there too....

I agree if he can't get a game for Southampton is he going to get a game anywhere in the top tier? Probably not.
Surely he wants to get back to scoring goals and enjoying his football. He can do that at QPR and be a hero in the process. Every kid would want Austin '9' and their shirts again.
