I've been looking into some clean sheet stats (yes that is how I spend my lockdown!) and last season was abysmal getting just 6 in the whole season. Definitely our worst season (over 46 games) as far back as I have checked so far (to 1995)
Anyway, what I have discovered is how bad Jurgen Sommer was!
66 league appearances, just 9 clean sheets
During 96/97 Tony Roberts replaced Sommer for just 13 games and already got to 6 clean sheets with 53 games to spare!
Have we ever had a worse goalkeeper than Sommer? Or are the stats just being unkind to him?
Suspect positioning from Sommer for the first goal here, whilst the second is a clanger!
I was actually at this game, thankfully my memory had erased both goals!
And again his positioning is very poor here. No way he should be stood where he is for the first goal. The second I've watched a few times now and I can't see how he doesn't just catch it?!
when we bought Sommer i thught fair enough decent enough it worked well us buying Wegerle from Luton so this will be fine and funny enought i didnt ever see Sommer play a game for QPR live so i cant say if he was as bad as they say
i think Lumley pushed this guy close
and another terrible keeper we had was Sieb Dykstra remember him?

To be fair to Lumley he did well in the McClaren season 18/19 (a lot more clean sheets than Sommer). It was last season his form and confidence dipped badly.
As for Sieb Dykstra...first and foremost how can we forget that moustache:
It was 3 clean sheets in 11 Premier League appearances for Dykstra though. Not too bad really!! He may have deserved more a chance.
Dykstra might be bad but for me its another Warburton Folly that takes the title. The worst goalkeeper I have ever seen in a QPR shirt is Liam Kelly. His record currently stands at just 3 clean sheets from 22 games. Percentage wise he is equal with Dykstra but I'm sure if he ever plays another game for us he will concede and officially win the title outright!
Kelly's clean sheet record is twice as bad as Dykstra - Kelly's 3 came in more matches
Kelly is a good shout really.
He made his debut in the cup and conceded 3, then conceded 2 in the next round.
In his first 6 league games he conceded a whopping 14 goals (3, 2, 2, 2, 3, 2)
So in his first 8 matches in all competitions he'd conceded 19 goals.
He got dropped and was reinstated in January
He conceded 1 in the FA cup and in the league went on to make another 13 league appearances. In that run he got the 3 clean sheets and only conceded 15, so he did improve somewhat.
So he made 22 appearances, 19 league, 3 cup. He conceded 29 in his 19 league appearances.
35 conceded in 22 overall. 1.59 goals per game.
Dykstra by comparison conceded 19 in 11 games. 1.72 goals per game. So his ratio is worse but matched Kelly's 3 clean sheets in half the games. Dykstra is perhaps unlucky that he played away at champions Blackburn (lost 4-0) and played against Man Utd (lost 3-2) which amount for a lot of his goals against.
Sommer conceded 33 in is first 22 games by means of comparison with Kelly, so his ratio is only just better - but Sommer only got 2 clean sheets.
In a nutshell, they are all shocking goalkeepers!
I remember Ademola Bankole was a joke of a goalkeeper but he never really played for QPR.
me personally i dont think Kelly was given a fair crack
but lets face it we thought we were getting a decent keeper WHY? we paid 50k for him so what did we expect? to be honest he was good value for 50k i persoally have played with much worse keepers in the past
Sommer's positioning in all those videos was at fault. If you cannot get that right - what chance have you got of saving anything!? Regarding Lumley, he is a decent goalie but does not fit into the mould demanded by Warburton. Asking him to work the ball around with his feet under pressure resulted in his confidence being shot to pieces! Regarding Kelly I was genuinely surprised at his record!!
