2020/21 End Of Season Stats
QPR finish the 20/21 season in 9th position on 68 points
We have improved from last season by 10 points and 4 places
In a 2nd tier season it is the most points we've gained in a season without gaining promotion since we were relegated in 1996 (ranking this season 3rd out of 19 2nd tier seasons in that period)
We won 15 games between (and including) beating Luton in January and beating Luton on the final day. It is quite incredible when you consider that in 9 of the previous 15 full seasons we haven't even won 15 games in total all season.
Those 15 wins came in 116 days. We'd only won 15 games in the previous 464 days prior to this run.
We only won 11 games in the whole of 2020 and have won 15 by 08 May in 2021
Next season will be a record equalling 7th consecutive season in the 2nd tier for QPR - we have never spent more than 7 seasons in a row in the 2nd tier. If we don't get promoted or relegated we will be making history.
COMPARISONS:
We kept 14 clean sheets which is 8 more than last season's 6. (Dieng kept 11, Lumley 3)
We only conceded 55 goals which is an improvement by 21 goals from last season when we shipped 76. We had conceded 70+ in each of the previous 3 seasons.
We had the 10th best defence this season - last season we were down in 22nd
We scored 57 which is down 10 from last seasons 67
We ranked 9th out of 24 for goals scored, matching our finishing position
It is only the first time in we have had a positive (+) goal difference since 2013/14 and only the third time we've been positive in the last 17 seasons
THE TURNAROUND:
We headed into 2021 with just 4 wins (and 21 points) from the opening 22 games. We were not even averaging 1 point per game at 0.95
We were heading for 44 points if the season continued like that, which would have been one hell of a battle but we would have survived as the bottom 3 all had 43 or less.
Instead we picked up 47 points alone in the final 24 games, averaging almost 2 points per game at 1.96.
We literally improved by 100%+ in the second half of the campaign, a whole point a game better off
Only the top 2 of Norwich and Watford picked up more points since the turn of the year
We only drew 2 of the final 24 games of the season (8%) having drawn 9 of the opening 22 games (41%)
Prior to playing Luton in January we were 15 places and 19 points behind Reading. We ended up just 1 place and only 2 points behind Reading.
We were just 2 points above the bottom 3 on 11 January. We finished the season 25 points clear of the bottom 3.
TEAM STATS
We ranked 7th for average possession, on 53%
We scored 5 out of the 6 penalties we were awarded
We received 81 yellow cards which was the 3rd highest total behind only Rotherham (82) and Watford (83). Reading had the least with 48.
QPR ranked lowest in the least for fouls awarded with just 442, 24 behind next placed Birmingham. Reading had the most with 687 fouls against. We committed 567 fouls ranking equal 12th
We hit 985 crosses - 3rd highest in the league. Ilias Chair was responsible for 266 of them.
PLAYER STATS
Yoann Barbet played every minute of every game - the first player to do this since Nedum Onuoha in 2015/16. Ebere Eze started every game last season but didn't play every minute.
Barbet was the only outfield player in the division to play every minute of every game.
Barbet ranked 1st in the entire league for interceptions with 112. Rob Dickie was 5th with 94.
Seny Dieng ranked equal 1st for number of saves with 119, level with Białkowski from Millwall.
Rob Dickie, Todd Kane and Seny Dieng were the 3 players sent off for QPR this season
Rob Dickie and Dominic Ball both received 9 yellow cards. Dickie tops the 'non fair play' chart for cards though having also received a red.
The youngest player to represent the team was Charlie Kelman and the oldest was Geoff Cameron
Only 5 players aged over 30 played for QPR this season - Johansen, Austin, Adomah, Wallace and Cameron
GOALS:
Lyndon Dykes tops the scoring chart with 12 goals (from 41 appearances)
Charlie Austin comes 2nd with 8 in 21 and Ilias Chair 3rd with 8 in 45
Lyndon Dykes also tops the assist chart along with Chris Willock and Albert Adomah - all on 5 assists. Ilias Chair had 4.
Ilias Chair had the most shots with 85. Dykes was next on 60 then Austin was 3rd on 48.
GEOFF CAMERON
Across the 3 seasons that Geoff Cameron was with QPR the team played 138 league games with 35.5% wins and 42.75% defeats
Cameron appeared in 89 of the 138 games.
Across the 3 seasons QPR won 35 games with Cameron = 39.33%
Cameron lost in 28 games = 31.46%
Then we need to consider the team performance in the 49 games without Cameron.... we won just 14 of the 49 games he missed (28.57%) and lost a massive 31 (63.27%). We only drew 4 of the 49 games Cameron missed.
31.46% defeats with Cameron, 63.27% defeats without him over 3 seasons.
His influence is clear. Compared to the team average we won more and lost a lot, lot less with Cameron in the team.
PERCENTAGE STATS:
Wins:
Of players who played at least 15% of games this season Jordy De Wijs tops the charts for % of games won.
De Wijs won 67% of the matches played (6 wins from 9)
Austin and Johansen both come next on 62% wins, each from 21 appearances.
They are followed by Sam Field 58% and George Thomas 53%
In terms of failing to win...
Tom Carroll is bottom of the chart with just 23% of matches won when he played (22 apps)
Bright Osayi-Samuel (24%), Charlie Kelman (27%) and Niko Hamalainen (27%) follow
Defeats:
When we look at percentage defeats this is again quite damning for Niko Hamalainen as he lost 45% of his 22 appearances
Charlie Kelman technically tops the list with 73% defeats but he only started once
