I had a real affection for Tony Roberts, Lee Harper and Juergen Sommer growing up (I had a goalkeeper top and always used to draw them) but watching some recent clips back on youtube they weren't the best to put it kindly.

I know a lot of R's fans like Rob Green but I could never take to him. Perhaps the dullest man in football.

Also, an honourable shout out to Gareth Ainsworth who, while a total R's legend, played in goal for Preston North End (so sort of counts) 

I think people's choices are swayed by factors out with ability, such as whether they liked the player as a person, or whether the player was in a team or era they look fondly on.

That's why probably I'll have Cerny or Burridge higher than they might otherwise be, whereas Rob Green does not get in my 10 (despite him and Richard Dunne being a huge reason we won the playoff final) because I didn't particularly relate to Redknapp's side, and why I'll never give David Seaman a second thought for the way he ditched us for Arsenal.
My mind might be addled by nostalgia but I remember Cerny as one of the good guys, staying loyal even while sitting on the bench, and that after an inauspicious start he turned his performances and the fans' attitude to him around and did really well; I'm a huge fan of players who knuckle down and completely turn supporters' views of them around, like Lee Wallace this season.
