far too many great centre backs but heres my top 10
1. Terry Fenwick 2. Alan McDonald 3. Darren Peacock 4. Danny Shittu 5. Clarke Carlisle 6 Danny Maddix 7. Nedum Onouha 8. Steve WIcks 9. Rob Dickie 10. Steve Yates
I'm going to go with top 3 on these because I find once I get past 3 the numbers seem less relevant and I just starting naming random players I can think of.
1) Clint Hill 2) Alan McDonald 3) Danny Shittu
Clint Hill I just love the guy. I still see him as 50% left back (let's not open up that debate again! ) but he's making this list anyway. Any list he can fit into, he will win in my book. An absolute stalwart and getting to see him lift the trophy at Wembley won't be beaten (shame the little git Barton held it with him but never mind)
I always remember being young and I played as a centre half and my Dad would tell me to watch Alan McDonald when we went to games; how he held the shirt of the man he was marking, but in such a subtle way that the referee wouldn't notice etc. He was an intelligent player, as well as a brilliant centre half
Danny Shittu was an absolute beast and I loved watching him back around that 2004 period. He was a physical specimen and in some ways he had all the attributes to play at a lot higher level.
Honourable mention to Richard Dunne who I wish we could have had at QPR for a lot longer. He was colossal.
1. Alan McDonald 2. Paul Parker 3. Clint Hill 4. Frank McLintock 5. Terry Mancini 6. Terry Fenwick 7. David Webb 8. Tony Hazell 9. Danny Maddix 10. Steve Wicks

I thought Paul Parker was amazing when he played for us but he was more a sweeper than centre half
if you think about it us playing him there with his height of what? 5ft 3? 5ft 4? was probably suicidal but somehow it worked i left him out because for both club (manchester utd) and country he was used as a right back they were prob too scared to be brave like us and have him at the centre at the back.
very proud to be a hoop back at italia 90 almost cried when the goal the germans scored in the semi final spun off parker into the net when he was trying to block the free kick
we would have won that world cup that season and Parker was my hero (to turn back the clock and be 15 all over again)
Some top names there. I'd have to find space for Glenn Roeder. Used to love the way he brought the ball out of defence and his step-over/shuffle. MW would love to have him in the team too.
