The Championship season will start 1 week earlier on 30 July, have a 4 week break for the World Cup group stages, but the season will still finish at the same time as normal on the first Saturday in May.
So expect pretty much every week to have midweek fixtures, like last season really.
The Championship returns after the World Cup group stage.
Leagues 1 and 2 will continue with no break at all unless teams have call ups in which case matches can be postponed. It will be very strange having World Cup matches on at the same time as lower League domestic matches!
So presumably if any of our players were in a team that made the World Cup knockout rounds we would be without them until their national team was eliminated?

If we are still in The Championship yes. But it seems unlikely any of our players countries will be going much further in the world cup. And we'd probably need to give those players who played in the group stage a few weeks off once they come back anyway.
If we could get promoted The Premier League is having a longer break for the whole world cup.
I looked at the announcement and my first thought, like northwesthoop, was that would mean even more fixture congestion! There will be an even higher demand for utility players in Championship squads in order to cover for injuries!!

I've just worked out that next season will be played over 33 weeks if you remove the 4 for the world cup and assuming we still have the international breaks in September, October and March.
46 games, plus League Cup and FA Cup in 33 weeks.
Even if a team gets knocked out in the first round of each cup, it still means that every other week of the season will have to have midweek matches.
This season we've had a lot of midweek matches so far, but we got to the 4th round of the cup which added to that, and from now until the end of the season we only have 5 midweek matches, and that includes the Christmas fixtures.
I think the international breaks are different next year as they are playing the Nations League next summer instead of the Autumn so the October one might get dropped. next March is the playoffs so potentially 3 games for Dykes

Whatever happens, we must assume most clubs are going to treat the cup games with even more disdain than normal...
