He's a good player. Very good at this level when he's on form and actually giving a damn.
HOWEVER (and this is a big however!) the club have gone on a lot in recent years about signing good eggs, talking in great length about how we do background checks on the players and their personality and how they will fit in with the group...
...Tom Lawrence does not fit that bill. Unless he has grown up a lot in recent years.
Also I believe he's on big bucks - especially by QPR standards. He's probably on £25,000 a week if not more depending what you read.
Anyway, after all that I think that once other teams realise he is available we will be outbid and outmuscled in the market for him.

What's the issue with his attitude NW? I don't know much about him?
I don't think this sounds very likely but west london sport usually know what they're talking about.
There is no doubt that Tom Lawrence is a top player at this level and if it came to fruition then what a statement signing he would be.
The fact its Dave McIntyre reporting adds substance to the story but with competition from teams like Bournemouth who have Premiership money in their pockets I would think it's just wishful thinking.

He was drink driving in the crash that smashed up Richard Keogh's legs. Derby then infamously sacked Keogh (who was a passenger) because he had no value but let Lawrence back into the team with just a fine (because he was valuable)
and by what ive been told hes not much of a drama queen was just an unfortunate issue that led to Keough going
not one to down tools at all ive been told
but i have been told hes one that wants to win at all costs
Told by whom? I think you need to have a look at this Derby forum:
Infuriating to watch, greedy, undisciplined, and generally lacks quality. The amount of wreckless yellow cards he gets is ridiculous for a winger. His assist/goal return has been atrocious.
I can't help but put my head in my hands when we have a free kick and he is standing over it like Ronaldo. In his head he's thinking 'GoInG 2 KnUcKle BaLL ThIs ToP CoRNa LaDss'. Ends up in Row Z without fail.
Get rid, fell off my chair when I read he was on £37k a week for a mediocre championship winger. Or is he a winger or a 10 don't even know anymore. Captain as well, Jesus.
(awaits comments: 'he's got the quality just inconsistent' sigh
Tom is a quality player, but is a passenger in too many games.
Shame in some ways, on a good day he is a good player, but not many good days... over a million a year in wages to a player who only turns up occasionally. No wonder we are in such a mess.
think he will be just what we need (look at my opinion on Dykes for example does that mean its so?)
just opinions of a certain player i think its more to do with stress that they have to get rid of 1 of their main players because of the financial problems lets face it its not a good time to be a derby fan
Josh Windass is MWs first choice like ive always said but this fella will be a bargain
thats if we get them i have a feeling we will lose out on money and wage issues

Agreed. I notice Wolves, Burnley, Newcastle and Fulham are all being linked this morning. Can't see how QPR win that financial battle.
If thats the case North West
i genuinely hope he goes to Fulham and if your theory is correct and he is a bad influence in dressing room and is this bad egg then he can disrupt Fulham's promotion challenge and we pip them and win the league
i must stop drinking so many energy drinks this time of morning when im supposed to be at work
With Derby in desperate financial trouble and the media suggesting that the Rams will let him go for free we have to be interested. I would expect us to be interested in any quality player who is on a free. It doesn't mean we will sign them but it's about the positivity of being linked with high profile players.
In respect of his wages being £37k a week, who knows. When we were initially interested in signing Steve Cook I read he was on £45k per week. Of course he would have been on over inflated Premiership money and if we had signed him then he would have been on significantly less. However, when he signed for Forest I looked at their message boards to see what they thought. Interestingly the talk was more to do with his salary and how they could afford his £60k/week salary rather than getting a very experienced player. I would be amazed if Cook is being paid £60k/week and if Lawrence is on £37k/week it's no wonder Derby need to offload him. Half the time it's the players agent putting a figure out into the media to use to the players advantage when negotiating the deal.

Those quoted salaries are staggering for the Championship! So, if true, small wonder Cook was wanted off Bournmouth's books, but surely Derby would only agree to sell Lawrence if the auditors demanded it - he is by far their best goal source?

I would imagine that players who have been relegated with Premiership teams like Fulham, Bournemouth, Sheffield United, WBA etc., are on big wages unless the clubs have clauses for to deal with the loss of income. In the short term with the help of their parachute payments these teams can pay the big salaries.
What seems unbelievable is how does a team like Forest afford the wages of a player only recently relegated from the Premiership. Whilst I can believe that Cook was on £45k/ week in the Premier League I dont believe for one minute that Forest are paying him anything like £60k/week. In fact I would find it strange if Forest were paying him more than £15k a week.
Derby are in all sorts of financial difficulties and you can see why when one of their players is supposedly getting paid £37k/week. We have been there and done that so I'm more than happy if we dodge players like Lawrence and Cook if they want excessive wages. The club's future is much more important than promotion at any cost.
It was also reported that when we signed David Marshall, Derby were more than happy to offload him because he was on £22k/week salary.
Bournmouth local media is stating that their team and QPR are both in active negotiations to gain Lawrence. If that is the case, as long as Bournmouth offer regular starting, surely Lawrence will go with them? Sadly we just do not have the stature of them....
think if this is the case were at 50/50 and its just a preference by him and if truth be known at his age where would you rather be playing? Bournemouth? or London? ive a feeling especially with what ive been told we could now be in poll position to sign him up.
