Apparently with Bournemouth now favourites to sign Derby midfielder Tom Lawrence we are turning our attentions to Swansea City attacker Jamie Patterson.
With Dike injured WBA are now also interested in Patterson who only signed for Swansea in August last year and seems to have fallen out with their hierachy already.
We seem to have quite a tight knit squad so I would rather we give him a miss than sign someone whose a trouble maker.

There was a lot of talk about him on Sky last night. Clearly a talented player, but you have to question him having to sit out games because his mind is elsewhere!

My understanding is that last August he signed for Swansea until 2022 with the option of a further year which is triggered after he plays 25 games. The issue is that after scoring a few goals he now wants a better financial deal should Swansea trigger the extension.
As I see things this one is probably a none starter because Patterson is 31yo this year and if Swansea can trigger an extension until 2023 they will want a decent transfer fee. The whole financial package plus no chance of any resale value may be too much of a FFP risk.
Media stating we have twice put in bids that have been rejected. That indicates intent but not necessarily desperation!
Not sure how much we have bid but the suggestion was they only wanted £500,000. If that figure is anywhere near true we must have offered a couple of really low ball figures.
I didn't realise he was 30 and I've got to be honest I don't know much about him but his stats don't stand out, he's not been prolific in the past.
It seems that because of his dispute with Swansea over wages we were probably just trying our luck to get him on the cheap. As you say he's never been prolific but I think he's more of an attacking midfielder rather than a striker. If they did sign him I see him more as competition or a replacement for Chair or Willock.
The issue that we can't ignore with players like Patterson and Lawrence is our salary structure.
